Dear Tubman Families,

As we turn the calendar to February, I am surprised by how quickly we are moving through this year! Our focus remains on fostering a safe, supportive, equitable and academically rigorous environment where every Bulldog can thrive. Thank you for your continued partnership and for making Tubman such a vibrant place for our children to learn and grow.

Important School Updates

  • Welcome Our New Assistant Principal: Dr. Therese Plunkett We are thrilled to announce that after a comprehensive search, Dr. Therese Plunkett has been officially named our new Assistant Principal. Dr. Plunkett has already been a dedicated supporter of our community, having served at Tubman part-time since August.
  • Meet the AP Event: If you haven’t had the chance to meet her yet, please join us for a "Meet the New AP" event for parents this Thursday, February 5th, immediately after school in Room 109. If you would like to learn more about her, please check out her bio here.

  • New YMCA Lead: Marcus Prince We are pleased to introduce Marcus Prince as our new YMCA lead. Marcus will be heading our aftercare and lunch/recess services, continuing our strong partnership with the YMCA to provide a safe and engaging environment for our students.

  • Commitment to Safety: A Safe Haven for All Tubman remains a safe and welcoming place for all families. We want to reassure our community that we have proactive plans and procedures in place regarding ICE and other safety concerns to protect the well-being of our students and their families.

  • Progress Reports: 3rd Quarter Progress Reports will be sent home on Friday! Please take a moment to review and discuss with your child.

  • Tubman Tutoring for Middle School (Grades 6–8) Tubman Tutoring is back! This program is run by students from Walter Payton College Prep and supervised by Principal Hammaker.

  • Schedule: Wednesdays from 3:00–3:45 PM, starting February 11th. (please note we will not have tutoring on March 11, 18, or 25)

  • Sign-up: If you are interested in your child attending, please fill out this form.

Fundraising & Community Spirit

  • The I ❤️ Tubman pledge drive is off to a great start and it's wonderful to see our students and families share their love for Tubman! Over $18,000 has been raised, putting us more than half way to reaching our goal of $30,000 and unlocking the donor match, raising $60,000 for Tubman. Please consider making a gift as it fits your family at tubmanpledge.org, these funds could have a huge impact on our school. And it’s been wonderful seeing the many things our students love about our school on their I Tubman paper hearts. Please keep them coming as FOT is picking winners to spin the prize wheel every day.

Facility Updates

  • Tubman Gym Floor Expectations The renovations are finished, and the gym is ready for use! To keep our new floor in top condition, please follow these guidelines:

  • Gym shoes only: Shoes must be clean and dry before entering.
  • No food or drinks: Keep all refreshments off the hardwood floor.
  • Equipment Care: No pulling or hanging on basketball rims.
  • Floor Protection: No tape or adhesives on the surface. These rules apply to all users, including after-school and evening programs.

Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and safe learning experience for our students!
