Dear Tubman Families,

We have an exciting and productive week ahead as we lead up to Spring Break! This is a wonderful time to celebrate our students’ hard work and look forward to the relaxing break ahead. Please take a close look at the schedule below, as we have several important calendar changes this week to accommodate professional development and community events.

Important: No School Tuesday & Wednesday

There will be no school for students on Tuesday, March 17th, due to a Professional Development Day and the Illinois Primary Elections.

Additionally, we will not have school on Wednesday, March 18th, as we look forward to seeing you for our Student-Led Conferences. These conferences are a powerful opportunity for students to share their academic journey and take ownership of their progress. While you are on campus, you will also have the opportunity to vote in the LSC elections. Please refer to the letter below for a list of what you need to bring in order to cast your vote on Wednesday.

Spring Break Schedule

Our Spring Break officially begins on March 21st. Students will return to school on Monday, March 30th, which is also when you will receive our next Bulldog Blast. I hope everyone has a restful and refreshing break, and we look forward to seeing our Bulldogs return ready to finish the school year strong!

In Partnership,

Principal Hammaker

Dear Tubman Parents, Caregivers and Community Members,

Comprised of parents, community, educational, and student members, Local School Councils (LSCs) serve as an important vehicle for participatory democracy, providing a wide variety of stakeholders an opportunity to make important decisions about how students in their communities will be educated.

The main responsibilities of the LSC include, but are not limited to, approving how school funds and resources are allocated, developing and monitoring the School Improvement Plan (CIWP) and evaluating and selecting the school’s principal. LSC members are elected every two years by parents, community members, and school staff and serve two-year terms.

On Wednesday, March 18th, Elections will be held in school to select the members of the LSC that will serve for the next two years. Polls will be open from 6:00AM to 7:00PM.

We encourage you to take a few minutes before or after your conference to vote!

WHO CAN VOTE:

·        All CPS parents, legal guardians, and temporary custodians of students

·        All CPS students at their school of attendance

·        All CPS paid staff within the school building they work in for more than 50% of their time

·        All community members who are Chicago residents and reflect a residential address within the school’s attendance area or voting district at least 17 years old. Use our LSC election map to find where you are eligible to vote.

·        US citizenship is not a requirement to vote

REQUIRED IDENTIFICATION TO VOTE:

All voters must present at least two (2) current (unexpired) forms of identification which are determined to be reliable by the election judges.
