Dear Tubman Families,


Welcome to the start of the 2025-26 school year! We are so excited to have your children back with us and are looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and success. Our focus remains on providing a safe, supportive, rigorous, and equitable environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

  • Plan for Arrival and Dismissal-Your child’s teacher will be sending an email later this week with specific details for drop off and pick up locations. Please see the Family Handbook for details on drop off and pick up during inclement weather.

Modified Lunch/Recess Schedule

Based on feedback from last year, we are modifying our lunch and recess schedule in the following ways:

  • K-2nd grade will have lunch in their classrooms to provide more time for them to eat their lunch. We also have more students in this grade band than our lunchroom can comfortably fit within the lunch timeframe. 
  • 3rd-8th grade will continue to have lunch in Room 107.
  • We will have YMCA staff, Security, Teaching Assistants, and Special Education Classroom Assistants supporting lunch and recess supervision.  
  • We will have PE class during some recess periods this year, so during inclement weather, recess may be in the classroom.


Upcoming Events

  • Inaugural Meet the Teacher - Please stop by this Thursday, August 14th between 2:45pm-4:45pm to meet your child’s teacher and drop off supplies. We hope you can make it!
  • FOT Back to School Bash - Stop by on Saturday, August 16th from 10:00am-12:00pm on Tubman’s north turf! Let’s kick off the year with some fun!
  • Open House - Our Open House will take place on Thursday, September 4th from 4:00pm-6:00pm. This is a great opportunity to visit your child’s classroom,, connect with other families and hear about all the wonderful learning opportunities your child will experience this year! I will also be hosting a session for parents on Understanding Bullying: Prevention and Intervention. I hope you can join us!


New School Fee Update:

This year, the student fee will be $180, which represents a $30 increase (approved by our Local School Council in July). This is the first increase in recent years, and it’s an important adjustment for several reasons. Recently, CPS announced district-wide budget reductions, including:

  • Cuts to building maintenance and cleaning staff
  • Technology replacements now coming from school discretionary funds
  • Shifts in meal service and other operations

In particular, we are concerned about the impact on technology, as schools may now be responsible for funding device replacements. This modest fee increase will help ensure we remain prepared and able to preserve the high-quality experience our students deserve.


First Day of School:

Our first day of school for K-8 is Monday, August 18th. PreK students have their first day of school on Tuesday, August 19th. School begins at 7:45am and ends at 2:45pm.
