Dear Tubman Families,

We are so excited to welcome you back to another amazing school year at Tubman! The first week is always full of energy, new beginnings, and opportunities for our students to shine. This year, our theme is Excellence Grows Here—and together, we will nurture that excellence every day through academics, arts, and community.

We’re also happy to share that YMCA aftercare is starting at Tubman today. Several families recently requested more flexible scheduling beyond the 3- or 5-day options, and I spoke directly with the YMCA aftercare lead. They shared that they may consider adding more flexible options later this fall. Please also note that the YMCA temporarily closed registration for Week 1 to ensure proper staffing ratios. Any family that signed up on or after Friday, August 16th will be able to start in Week 2. If this creates a significant hardship, please contact the YMCA enrollment coordinator, Ari @ aosuna@ymcachicago.org.

Today, we also welcomed back AP Wiley from her leave that began in June—it’s wonderful to have her back! A big thank-you to AP Plunkett, who stepped in as Acting AP in August and worked alongside me to plan for the start of the school year.

We also want families to know that while we promoted a high school test prep opportunity for our 8th graders last June, we did not have enough Tubman families register to host the class here this year. I will be reaching out directly to the families who did sign up with information about alternate options.

Please check your child's bookbag tomorrow evening for their Tuesday Folder. Tuesday Folders go home weekly on Tuesdays and should be returned on Wednesdays! These folders will contain important school and class information, field trip permission slips, afterschool program flyers, and more. This week, be on the look out for the beginning of the year forms and School Fee Letter & Waiver.
