Coordinators' Corner

As we bring 2024 to a close, we want to thank all of our IB students, staff and families for doing their part to make Central IB's program the premiere educational program in Southwest Missouri. We are so proud of our students and all that they have accomplished. We cherish our IB staff for all the heart and soul they put into their classes and the support and care they provide for their students. We are continually grateful that each of you have chosen to make Central your "home" and continue to support and champion our valuable IB Program.

In January we will begin our IB presentations to sophomores and families to help inform their path forward for either the Diploma or Career-related Program. Please reach out to the IB Coordinators if you have questions regarding either program!

In the meantime, we wish for you all a wonderful holiday season!

Central Lost Valley Trip

Central Students Visit Lost Valley National Park in October

When we arrived at Lost Valley in Ponca, Arkansas, our class got to explore the natural beauty that the Ozarks has to offer. We walked on the trail through the woods while observing the stillness of the environment around us. Our trip to Lost Valley gave us the rare ability to connect with nature as opposed to our busy everyday lives. We were given the opportunity to observe different examples of the systems we had learned about in ES&S class. The environment in Lost Valley is a beautiful representation of Earth without human interference, and showcases how the different components of an ecosystem interact. This was a fun and educational trip!

IB Collaborative Science Project Showcase

Collaborative-Team-Culture image

The IB Science courses will be showcasing the Collaborative Science Projects this year December 12th in the Commons from 5-7pm.

Students from the IB Sciences have formed interdisciplinary teams and created presentations explaining how their team of scientists (an Environmental Scientist, a Physicist, a Biologist, and a Chemist) address a global problem on the local level. The global problems have been defined by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The students have developed local solutions to the problems through the lens of science. Additionally, they have reached out to community and governmental organizations to see what the problems look like here in the Ozarks. Some of these groups are setting up booths at the showcase to promote what they are doing to help solve these global issues locally.
