Coordinators' Corner

Happy Fall! Can you believe it's already October...and it's almost the end of 1st Quarter!

October is a busy month for seniors with college events and visits. We encourage each senior student to take advantage of all the events SPS and CHS have to offer, and ask questions! College planning can feel overwhelming at times, so please rely on Central staff and resources to help you navigate all the big decisions (sadly we can't fix the continued FAFSA debacle!).

As we near the end of 1st Quarter we encourage students and families to reach out to their teachers to set up conference times during Parent Teacher Conference week to have meaningful discussions about student progress. We also encourage all students to take advantage of P.R.I.D.E. time and the P.R.I.D.E time drafting to get caught up or ahead in your classes!

Please reach out to any of the IB Coordinators for assistance throughout the year!

Students are working collaboratively to plan and teach lessons related to Mathematics, the Natural Sciences, the Human Sciences, the Arts, and History.

CP Spotlight

Personal & Professional Skills Grade 11

PPS students in their Junior year are starting to research ethical dilemmas related to their career paths for the core component of the Reflective Project! We start off the unit by defining and identifying ethical dilemmas, discussing some philosophical approaches to ethical dilemmas.

Soon students will start to apply these ideas to current events in their future careers. They also have a deadline coming up where they were expected to find a teacher to mentor them in their writing process. All of this work will eventually result in them writing their final drafts of their Reflective Projects in PPS 2, which is what the seniors have been starting in the last week!

Important Information from CHS Journalism

School picture RETAKES day will be on Wednesday, November 13th in the Pit. If your student did not take their photo on the original picture day, please make sure they take their photo with Lifetouch on this day so that they will be included in the yearbook. The yearbook staff does not accept outside photos for the album section.

Speaking of yearbooks, yearbooks can be purchased online at jostensyearbooks.com. The price is $50 until the end of February. There are also personalization options and payment plan options available online.

Do you have a senior? Do you want them to have a special shout-out in the yearbook? Senior recognition ads are also available for purchase at jostensyearbooks.com. Senior recognition ads are a great place to leave your senior a heartfelt note and submit your own photos, whether that be baby photos or senior photos. The deadline for purchasing your senior's recognition ad and submitting all photos and notes is February 8.

Do you know somebody who owns a local business and would like to support the school's quarterly newsmagazine, The Central High Times? The CHT staff is looking for local businesses who might be interested in donating toward the printing costs of the magazine through sponsorship or by purchasing advertising space in each issue of the magazine. For more information, please contact the print journalism adviser, Kori O'Dell, at keodell@spsmail.org.
