IB Junior Retreat Day

Our new IB Diploma Program & Career-related Program Juniors will attend the IB Junior Retreat on Friday, September 6th.  The annual event introduces students to Diploma and Career-related program requirements and expectations, but also helps develop connections among students and staff as an IB cohort. Students will take part in group building and information sessions regarding the components of their specific programs in the morning. After a lunch at Drury University Commons, the DP and CP students will combine for sessions on self-care, stress management, and college preparation with our IB Counselor, ending with a group building activity.

MYP Spotlight

MYP 9 Project Lab classes took tours of the building to get freshman familiarized with the layout. Teachers also discussed the various clubs and opportunities students can take advantage of during their time here at Central. The MYP 9 class has a purpose of building community among the students while developing skills and support to help all students navigate the possibilities of IB.

The Extended Essay

DP seniors are completing the rough drafts of their Extended Essays, which they began last year.

The EE rough draft is due on September 22.

EE Supervisors will then read through the rough drafts and provide comments, helpful advice, and revision "opportunities" for each of their students.

The FINAL DRAFT for seniors is November 17th. DP seniors will have an Extended Essay work day on October 25th, where they will have dedicated time to finalize their essays and meet with staff as needed.

Important Information from CHS Journalism

School picture day will be on Wednesday, September 4th in the Pit. Please make sure your student takes their photo with Lifetouch on this day so that they will be included in the yearbook. The yearbook staff does not accept outside photos for the album section.

Speaking of yearbooks, yearbooks can be purchased online at jostensyearbooks.com. The price is $45 through the end of September, at which point the price goes up to $50. There are also personalization options and payment plan options available online.

Do you have a senior? Do you want them to have a special shout-out in the yearbook? Senior recognition ads are also available for purchase at jostensyearbooks.com. Senior recognition ads are a great place to leave your senior a heartfelt note and submit your own photos, whether that be baby photos or senior photos. The deadline for purchasing your senior's recognition ad and submitting all photos and notes is February 8.

Do you know somebody who owns a local business and would like to support the school's quarterly newsmagazine, The Central High Times? The CHT staff is looking for local businesses who might be interested in donating toward the printing costs of the magazine through sponsorship or by purchasing advertising space in each issue of the magazine. For more information, please contact the print journalism adviser, Kori O'Dell, at keodell@spsmail.org.
