Meet Underwriting Manager Jen Siehlmann

Guiding IBMC’s Underwriting Team

The success of IBMC is built on the expertise and dedication of its team members. One key contributor is Jen Siehlmann, IBMC underwriting manager, whose extensive experience and commitment to excellence play a vital role in serving IBMCs partner banks and their borrowers.

A native of Storm Lake, Siehlmann earned her business degree at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) and has worked in the mortgage industry for 26 years. Thirteen of those years have been at IBMC, where she served as an underwriter and, for the past year and a half, as the manager of the department.

Currently managing a team of six underwriters, Siehlmann appreciates the impact her role has on borrowers, ensuring they have opportunities to achieve homeownership or improve their financial positions. She is an active manager, underwriting files for all IBMC programs, including Conventional, Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Rural Development (RD), and Veterans Affairs (VA) loans. Siehlmann is responsible for ensuring all loans comply with regulatory, investor, and agency policies and procedures.

In addition to her underwriting responsibilities, Siehlmann provides guidance to her team on complex loan scenarios, mentors them on best practices and stays updated on industry trends. She values helping both IBMC and its partner banks manage risk effectively.

Siehlmann also enjoys being a resource for partner banks, welcoming questions and input from bankers. Whether through email, direct calls or inquiries sent to the underwriting email inbox (underwriting@ibmc.com), she and her team are eager to assist with loan scenarios or clarify policy guidelines that can sometimes be confusing.

Siehlmann advises bankers submitting loans to IBMC to ensure the application is complete in its entirety. She also recommends using the IBMC Underwriting Checklist and submitting a complete package to eliminate suspended files and resubmissions. Additionally, she stresses reminding borrowers of the importance of no new debt or job changes during the underwriting process, as this can help avoid delays or prevent loan approval.

When she’s not working, Siehlmann enjoys traveling with her family, playing golf and cheering for the Hawkeyes.
