Feast of Our Lady of Manaoag

The Filipino Community will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Manaoag on Saturday, October 11, during the 5:30 PM Mass.

Our Lady of Manaoag is a beloved title of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose devotion began in the Philippines in the 1600s after an apparition to a farmer in Manaoag, Pangasinan. Known for her intercession and miraculous protection, she continues to inspire deep faith and devotion among Filipino Catholics around the world.

Jesus healed ten lepers in today's Gospel. Only one (10%) came back to say thank you. I, too, have received many blessings from the Lord - indeed all I am and all I have is gift! How and how often have I remembered to thank Him?

Ministry Spotlight of the Week

Would you like to share your spiritual gifts of encouragement, hospitality, caregiving, or service? Why not help us with our Thanksgiving Project!

Each year, we provide Thanksgiving baskets for about 25 families in our parish and school. The Youth Group collects canned foods, while parishioners donate food cards, hams, and turkeys.

We need volunteers to help organize and coordinate the delivery of the baskets to families. We’ll be assembling the baskets during the week of November 17.

National Pregnancy and Infant Loss

Remembrance Day - Prayer & Candle Lighting

Immaculate Conception's Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Ministry cordially invites you to an event on Sunday, October 12th, after the 9:30 Mass in the Daily Chapel. All are invited to join in a brief time of prayer and candle lighting to honor the children in our families and in our community who have died before birth or during infancy. This event is in honor of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, which is observed worldwide on October 15th.

All are welcome: Women and men alike, those who have experienced loss personally, and those who would like to support families who have experienced loss.

Second Collection: Maintenance Fund

This weekend's second collection will go towards the Maintenance Fund. This money funds the maintenance of the Church and our surrounding campus.

Saints and Stories

Join us for a new women’s faith sharing opportunity, as we gather monthly to learn about the saints of our Church and hear stories of faith from local women. Meetings will occur on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the youth ministry room on the 2nd floor of school building. Mark your calendar for our first meeting on October 14 and join us to learn more about St. Teresa of Avila.

Meals for the Hungry - 10/18

As a parish, we serve dinner to ~150-200 people on the third Saturday of every month. We ask that food donations be delivered in disposable (ie, aluminum) pans and that each donation be enough to feed 15 people. Donations can be dropped off at the Immaculata kitchen (attached to the school) between 4:15 and 5:00 pm on Saturday. Food will be kept warm and cold as necessary until transport to Urban Ministry on Liberty Street, where meals will be served in person. We ask that those who volunteer to serve at Urban Ministries arrive at Immaculata kitchen by 5 pm; an insufficient number of servers puts a burden on those serving. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

Memorial Mass

We will have our annual Memorial Mass on Saturday, November 1st at 11:00 AM as we prayerfully remember and honor our loved ones who have gone before us. If you have a family member or loved one who has passed away in the last year and would like them to be remembered during this special liturgy, please contact Olga to include them.

33rd Annual Vigil Against Violence

JPIC Gun Violence Prevention Ministry invites you to join Immaculate Conception parishioners and your neighbors around the Durham Homicide Memorial Quilt at the Annual Vigil Against Violence, hosted by the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham. It will be held on Saturday, October 11 at 10 am (Elizabeth Street United Methodist Church - 1209 North Elizabeth St, Durham).

For the 33rd time, we offer this Annual Vigil as space to unite in public grief for the inequitable human toll of our violence. Join us to honor and remember 40 lives lost in a ritual of sacred attention to every named, loved one taken by violence in Durham County during 2024. World Food Day Prayer & Action to End Hunger

Bread for the World is asking all Immaculate Conception parishioners to take part in World Food Day on October 16th, with prayer and action to end hunger.

Like the persistent widow in the Bible (Luke 18:1-8), we must continue asking Congress to fully fund and strengthen the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and reinstate global nutrition and health programs to feed and care for people around the world.

Durham CAN Delegates Assembly

The Durham CAN Delegates Assembly with candidates for Mayor and City Council will be held on Sunday, October 19th, 3 pm at St. Mark AME Zion Church (531 S. Roxboro Street). 

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is a founding member of Durham CAN (Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods). This summer, four Durham CAN Research and Action Teams have been working on strategies around Affordable Housing, Immigrant Rights, Violence Reduction, and Education. Candidates will be asked to respond to Durham CAN’s agenda for change in the areas of increased funding for immigrant legal protections, youth summer jobs, a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence, and affordable housing at 505 West Main. Please plan to attend and support our efforts to make Durham a safer and more equitable city.

50 Plus group

The 50 Plus group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Hibachi Grill buffet restaurant at 12:30 PM. Next meeting date is Wednesday, 11/5/2025. Please plan to arrive between 11:30 - 12:00 to eat lunch before the meeting starts. We have a speaker, followed by discussion of upcoming trips and other events. There are currently openings for the 3 day, 2 night New Years Eve inSavannah, GA, trip from Dec. 30, 2025 - Jan. 1, 2026, and the trip to Washington, D.
