Stewardship Thought for the Week

August 17, 2025

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today's second reading, St. Paul encourages us not to grow weary or lose heart, but to preserve in following Jesus. Our willingness to give of ourselves, even in the face of conflict, and division, is one way to measure discipleship.

Ministry Spotlight of the Week

Looking to connect your time and talent to a ministry that help people in our parish?

Looking to engage your spiritual gifts* of caregiving, mercy, service, or encouragement in a ministry that truly makes a difference in people’s lives?

If so, please consider joining our Pastoral Ministry Team. We have been talking about forming this ministry for years. I am looking to create a list of people who are willing to take a parishioner to the doctor or dentist - maybe take them food shopping, maybe pick up something for them or pick them up and bring them to Church.

Some people are alone and need help with some basic tasks and would be so grateful for someone to help them. This past week, someone in our parish had to have complicated dental surgery - she needed to go from one surgeon to another and was unable to drive because of the medication she was going to be on. I was able to connect with someone from our parish who has able to help her out. The woman was so grateful!

I would like to have a list of people willing to help that way when someone calls looking for help. If you're interested in being part of this ministry, you can contact Margie.

Meals for the Hungry - 8/16

As a parish, we serve dinner to ~150-200 people on the third Saturday of every month. We ask that food donations be delivered in disposable (ie, aluminum) pans and that each donation be enough to feed 15 people. Donations can be dropped off at the Immaculata kitchen (attached to the school) between 4:15 and 5:00 pm on Saturday. Food will be kept warm and cold as necessary until transport to Urban Ministry on Liberty Street, where meals will be served in person. Thank you for your generosity and kindness

No Outdoor Mass on August 17 and 24

There will be no Outdoor Mass on August 17 and 24 as a Friar will be away during the month of August. We invite you to join us for the liturgy inside the church during this time. Thank you for your understanding.

JustFaith Fall Registration - Faith and Immigration Justice

“I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Mt 25).

Pope Francis has said, “Migrants and refugees are not pawns on the chessboard of humanity.”

Faith & Immigration Justice is a JustFaith Ministries program that invites a small group of parishioners into a holy and healthy dialogue around immigration in our communities to better discern how we are called to respond in our Christian faith. By fostering active listening, dialogue, and prayer, this program forms a group that is footed in trust and compassion, lending new insights to participants’ understanding of immigration policy and those affected by it. By encouraging new spiritual practices and informed action, it cultivates an expanding community of Christians who work for immigration justice in their respective contexts.

We will meet in person for 9 sessions on Thursday nights, from 6:30-8:30 pm, beginning on September 18 and ending before Thanksgiving. Space is limited. For more information or to register for this Fall’s Faith & Immigration Justice program, please visit our Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) JustFaith web page. We hope you will join us!

Next Week's Second Collection: For The Crisis in Gaza

In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, our parish will take up a second collection to provide urgently needed relief and pastoral support for those suffering in Gaza and the surrounding areas. Funds will be distributed through the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which are working with the local Church to deliver food, shelter, and other emergency assistance quickly and effectively. Please give generously to help our brothers and sisters in dire need, and join us in prayer for peace, protection, and healing for all affected.

Love Fund

The Love Fund comes from our parish. This married couple, who have three children, have both been working. Recently, the wife lost her job due to ICE raids at her workplace, and the husband’s hours have been cut. He is currently looking for a second job. They do not have the money for this month’s rent. Any financial assistance would be greatly appreciated to help them stay current on their bills.
