Stewardship Thought for the Week

August 10, 2025

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Am I waiting for the "right" time to become a good steward? Do I plan to share my time and talents "later"? Today's Gospel warns those who are procrastinating about stewardship to be prepared - "at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."

Ministry Spotlight of the Week

Looking to connect your time and talent to a ministry that helps the less fortunate in our community?

Looking to engage your spiritual gifts* of caregiving, mercy, service, or encouragement in a ministry that truly makes a difference in people’s lives?

If so, please consider joining our Love Fund Ministry Team. We help people in financial need. You can become an intake specialist and talk to neighbors who are requesting help, become a home visitor to meet with neighbors in person, or assist with administrative tasks.

The schedule is flexible — in fact, you choose what works best for you! We also have a ministry meeting every other month to discuss our cases.

If you're interested in this ministry, you can contact Margie or stop by our meeting on Wednesday, August 20th at 6:30 PM in the Parish Office.

We are especially looking for bilingual volunteers to join our team!

Looking forward to seeing you on the 20th!

Meals for the Hungry - 8/16

As a parish, we serve dinner to ~150-200 people on the third Saturday of every month. We ask that food donations be delivered in disposable (ie, aluminum) pans and that each donation be enough to feed 15 people. Donations can be dropped off at the Immaculata kitchen (attached to the school) between 4:15 and 5:00 pm on Saturday. Food will be kept warm and cold as necessary until transport to Urban Ministry on Liberty Street, where meals will be served in person. Thank you for your generosity and kindness

Catholic Daughters Book Club

Catholic Daughters of the Americas – Court Durham will have our CDA Book Club discussion on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 6:15 PM in the Adult Faith Formation room at the Parish Office. Mary Hilchey will lead our discussion on Her Hidden Genius by Marie Benedict. Please bring an appetizer to share with the group in lieu of dinner.

All ladies 18 years of age or older are welcome to attend, whether they have read the book or not. Come and meet the wonderful ladies of Court Durham! You may also join via Zoom for the discussion.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Regent Jayne Stephens.

JustFaith Fall Registration - Faith and Immigration Justice

“I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Mt 25).

Pope Francis has said, “Migrants and refugees are not pawns on the chessboard of humanity.”

Faith & Immigration Justice is a JustFaith Ministries program that invites a small group of parishioners into a holy and healthy dialogue around immigration in our communities to better discern how we are called to respond in our Christian faith. By fostering active listening, dialogue, and prayer, this program forms a group that is footed in trust and compassion, lending new insights to participants’ understanding of immigration policy and those affected by it. By encouraging new spiritual practices and informed action, it cultivates an expanding community of Christians who work for immigration justice in their respective contexts.

We will meet in person for 9 sessions on Thursday nights, from 6:30-8:30 pm, beginning on September 18 and ending before Thanksgiving. Space is limited. For more information or to register for this Fall’s Faith & Immigration Justice program, please visit our Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) JustFaith web page. We hope you will join us!

Notice

Many parishioners have received emails from an unknown sender impersonating Fr. Manuel. Please be careful and stay on the lookout for any suspicious messages. If you receive anything unusual, report the suspicious number or email immediately.

Parish Safety Reminder

We would like to remind all parishioners to please avoid leaving any valuables in your vehicles while attending Mass. Even if items are hidden from sight, thieves have been known to search vehicles in church parking lots, knowing that people will be inside for an extended period.

Unfortunately, this type of criminal activity is not uncommon and often occurs in multiple nearby locations on the same day before the perpetrators move on to another area. This pattern has also been seen at other venues such as shopping malls and movie theaters.

Let us remain vigilant and take precautions to protect ourselves and our community. Thank you for helping keep our parish a safe and welcoming place for all.

Love Fund

The Love Fund comes from our community. A Peer Support Specialist from the State contacted us to request financial assistance for this family. The mother is a single parent of a 4-year-old non-verbal autistic son. She has been unable to work this summer because her son has been out of school, and she needed to stay home to care for him. Her Peer Support Specialist is hoping we can provide financial support to help prevent her eviction. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
