Greetings Friends and Supporters of Inclusive Communities!
I write today to announce that after (almost) eight years of service, I am stepping down as one of the Executive Directors of Inclusive Communities. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this mission and be a part of this team.
Stepping in as the leader of a 77-year-old organization was daunting. Eight years ago, I was hopeful that my efforts would help build sustainability and create lasting change. It was a big job and there was a lot to overcome. Today, IC is an 85-year-old organization, and I am proud to have seen many of our initiatives take root and grow over this period, with support from a wide-ranging coalition of committed individuals and organizations. Since 2015, we’ve quadrupled our budget, received local, state and national awards and now provide education and programming to over 10,000 people per year.
While all these accolades and data points are thrilling, I’m most honored by the internal work. These years with IC have been more rewarding than I ever imagined. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have had such a meaningful vocation, and I am humbled by the profound effect this work has had on me personally. Being a part of a team that has fought so courageously to confront prejudice, bigotry, and discrimination has been one of the most substantial experiences of my life. To have been a part of this incredible mission and to have seen the positive change that has come about within our organization as well as our community, because of our mission is truly humbling. This ending is both sweet and hard, full and true, right and hopeful.
Cammy and I have had an incredible partnership and I’m beyond appreciative of her collaboration. I’m thrilled that my departure will allow her sole leadership to guide the next necessary stage of growth for Inclusive Communities. I trust Cammy to steward this organization towards its future and am so grateful for everyone’s support as we developed this strategy to set up sustainability through this succession. I am confident that the dedicated team at Inclusive Communities will continue to lead the organization on a path of positive progress.
It has been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to work with you all and to have your support throughout this experience. I will always remember and cherish the great memories and learning experiences that I have gained here. Honestly, the challenges have taught me the most and I’m so grateful for every single one of them; I’m leaving as a better person.
Although my time with Inclusive Communities has come to an end, I remain committed to this cause and am convinced that the incredible energy within this organization will help it continue to thrive and grow. It has been moving and encouraging to see how far we have come, and I am sure that with the help of the many inspiring individuals and supporters who have made this progress possible, Inclusive Communities will continue to drive change for years to come.
I am deeply thankful for the support I have received during my time here, and I encourage everyone to continue to pledge their ongoing support to Inclusive Communities and help guide its work towards an ever more equitable and inclusive future.
