ICANN PRIMER

At ICANNWiki we have two sides. We have our fun side, providing entertaining giveaways, such as decks of cards and caricature badges. We also have our informative side,   providing a robust resource for the ICANN community. 

This time around, we found a way to merge both sides into one, through a brand new giveaway, called the  ICANN Primer.  It provides a fresh twist on the City Guide that we have been known for in the past. It will still provide you with fun suggestions for meals, drinks and other activities after conference hours, but now it will also include a section on important information regarding the conference itself. 

This new informative section will provide a summary of the most important issues, with a schedule organized by topic and a venue map. Additionally, it will provide a glossary of acronyms, and a list of ICANN Board members, including who they were selected by and which committees they serve on. 

The Primer will provide a robust resource for anyone wanting a little more information on the conference or the city of Dublin. The dual nature of this booklet, will make it a go to resource for the entire week of the conference. 

We would like to give special thanks to Iron Mountain for once again supporting us in our new ventures. In Buenos Aires they supported our revival of the Edit-a-thon and now they are helping us provide another great resource to the ICANN Community.



Fáilte, Welcome to Dublin! Join ICANNWiki's Edit-a-thon and Edit-a-thon Reception 

Join us for our second Edit-a-thon in Dublin where we'll introduce the basics of our wiki and use our collective knowledge to create a robust set of articles about ICANN and Internet governance. 

You'll learn how to create or add to an article on topics you care about most. We'll show you how to develop content that is neutral, factual (supported by reputable sources) and follows wiki writing standards. 

These two-hour sessions held on Monday, October 19 and Tuesday the 20th will be followed by a small reception to celebrate participant contributions. The event will be catered and we will offer door prizes for contributions. 

We are excited to announce that both events will be sponsored by Amazon. This new partnership will enable ICANNWiki to help build a broader, more in-depth network of information for newcomers and ICANN veterans alike. Thank you Amazon, for your enthusiastic support!

Multilingual ICANNWiki

Our efforts to provide our readers with content in their native language is gaining momentum. After adding the translation extension to our ICANNWiki, we have not only increased the amount of translated content, but also improved ts presentation. By giving translated content its own separate page, we have made it more accessible for our readers. 

A major component of reaching our multilingual goals is working with organizations and individuals who have the skill set needed to provide great translations for our wiki. Considering there are already several significant barriers to being able to translate technically dense text, we do not want wiki markup to add another obstacle. To circumvent the prerequisite of wiki markup knowledge, we have created translation tutorials, in text and video form. 

Through the generous support and assistance of Hua Robinson, we received great feedback on our array of translation tools and have begun fine-tuning the process. Hua tested out our tutorial and translation tool by translating her personal page into Chinese. Not only did this help us learn more about our new functionality, but it added more translated content to our site. 

Through the help of Hua, Allegravita, and Dominios Latinoamerica we are getting closer to our goal. It would not be possible for us to pursue a multilingual site, if it were not for generous help from our community. 



What Are Our Partners Doing?

  • Dominos Latinoamerica   has launched a new website in time for its event to be held in Costa Rica, November 2-3, 2015. The site features content on new gTLDs, and domaining news, most of which has been translated into English and Portuguese.  
  • .Green In its September newsletter, the organization announced that it has partnered with EarthShare to grant Surfrider for their Clean Water Initiative. We love seeing such strong community commitment from our sponsors, particularly for an important issue as clean water!
  • Neustar recently chose Chris McArdle as their Vice President of Marketing Services. 
  • Get ready for Domainfest Fort Lauderdale, (sponsored in part by Donuts) to be held September 27, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66. Topics covered will include an introduction to the world of domains and a conversation about engaging the Spanish speaking domain market.
  • Iron Mountain recently partnered with the Paul Murray Center for History and Social Justice to create the Pauli Murray House. Pauli Murray was a fearless African-American lawyer and women's rights activist.
