Senior Capstones and Studio Open House

Each year seniors cap off their time at the ICC with a week of project presentations called Capstones, and for the Class of 2023 that week will happen during Cedarville University's final exam week of May 1, 2 and 3. Each day will feature eight presentations, each lasting about 45 minutes, and we invite the professional design and our alumni community to join us! Click the link below to learn more about each presentation.

Friday, May 5, the ICC will open its doors for its annual Open House for parents, graduates, currently-enrolled students, extended family and the design community to come and celebrate our most-recent graduating class! Refreshments are provided. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and the event will run until approximately 7:30 p.m. Please click the link below to RSVP.

IDSA Student Merit Awards, ICC Design Career Day and Ryan Dowd Returns

Spring is always a busy time at the ICC and this March was no exception! The ICC hosted the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Columbus Student Merit Award Selection Night on March 21.

Columbus is a hot bed for innovation and creativity, especially in the industrial design field with three leading collegiate programs at The Ohio State University, Columbus College of Art and Design and the ICC's partnership with Cedarville University.

Seniors from each program came together along with about 100 attendees to hear student presentations, three from each school. One senior from each program was selected to advance to district competition. We were honored to be able to host this annual event for the first time this year!

For the first time since COVID shutdowns, the ICC was able to once again host a career day at the studio on March 31. Representatives from Continental Office, Worthington Industries, Design Central, Goken Industries and more spent time meeting ICC juniors and seniors and sharing what skills they are looking for in new hires. Thank you to all of the recruiters who took time to visit with our students!

Welcome back to Ryan Dowd, Senior Product Designer at ToughBuilt Industries, who will be leading a course for our junior class later this spring. Ryan's industry expertise, passion for great design, and deep desire to build character into the next generation of creatives is cherished and also exemplifies the ICC's commitment to industry relevance and influence in its curriculum. Thank you for being part of the ICC family!

Graduate School Team is Growing

Welcome to Maggie Unger Hess, MBA, who has spent the past twenty years in higher education enrollment leadership in the Twin Cities Minneapolis area at various Christian universities, most recently as the Director of Enrollment at Crown College. She will serve as the Director of Graduate Recruiting and has worked extensively with graduate level business and leadership adult learners over the past few decades.

The ICC is proud to partner with The Graduate School at Cedarville University to deliver two very unique and powerful master-level programs; a stand-alone MA in Innovation and a concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship within the MBA.

Upon completing his Master of Arts in Design Thinking degree, Tim Phipps was recruited to join the innovation team at the ICC, and now is the instructor of record for numerous courses, a co-contributor for content development, and also serves as the "subject matter expert," tracking improvements, changes and refinements of the curriculum.

"Tim has the kind of work ethic, integrity, and smarts that is rare to find and as soon as we heard that he had a desire to expand his scope of work into innovation, we recruited him as quickly as we could...he is a delight to work with and an integral part of the success of these new programs," said ICC President and Co-Founder, Jim Stevenson.

Tim is also the Technical Director and Production Manager for Cedarville University's Theater Department.

ICC @ Work

Class of 2018 graduate Mitch McClarin's senior capstone led him straight into his dream job; working in the themed entertainment industry.

Mitch's first stop was as a designer at Adirondack Studios which does concept, production and installation work for some of the largest theme parks and experiences in the country.

After three years, he moved closer to his hometown area in south central Pennsylvania taking a position as a 3D Artist for the Sight and Sound Theater whose mission is to bring Bible stories to life with immaculate, multimedia, immersive stage productions which sell out months in advance every season at multiple locations.

The theaters will host over one million visitors per year!
