The Business Group on Health podcast recently interviewed ICER’s President and CEO, Sarah K. Emond, MPP about the affordability of cell and gene therapies. A brief excerpt below:
“One of the things that we're experiencing is that generally we're overpaying for value when it comes to our prescription drug spend. And so, we feel like we don't have anything left to spend. When a new therapy comes on the market that might be priced appropriately in the millions of dollars because it's a tremendous therapy, we feel tension, and we feel an affordability crunch…
It can't be that we continue to be price takers from the ecosystem without any conversation about whether the price is fair, or we won't have money to pay for these innovations in the future.”
