Call for Peace in Our Communities At Large
In my opinion as a person belonging to the human race, I feel we have lost a sense of respect for human dignity around the world. We are all responsible in one way or the other for the things that are happening around the world. Let us not point fingers because that will not help the cause. However, let us join hands to make sure that all of us deserve a better life to live abundantly.

The shooting that took place in Poway California on Saturday killed at least one person and injured 3 others. But it could have been worse. Therefore, let us be reminded the dangers we face without religious tolerance here and around the world. Faith leaders, this is our task to remind our congregations every day to reach out to those who are hurting most as vulnerable populations such as people with mental health issues. This is the essence of faith to restore hope to the hopeless.

I attended the communitywide commemoration Yom HaShoah on April 28, 2019 at B’nai Israel. I listened to the speaker, the son of Paul Schwarzbart , a holocaust survivor narrating the story of his father, and a young lady who sung “Where Can I Go?” by Cantorial Intern Caitlyn Shannon.  This really captured my attention and touched my soul. If you have ever reached those expressed moments in life, my fellow human beings, there is no other place to go but to be kind to one another, and offer yourself to make this world a better place for generations to come. I really hope we learn from these experiences! I am not Jewish but I am glad I attended the commemoration and felt part of the call to peace. Our heartfelt loss goes to the family of the deceased not to lose hope.

World Refugee Day Celebration
World Refugee Day Celebration

SAVE THE DATE!

Please see a general flyer for the June 8th World Refugee Day celebration in partnership with the local resettlement agencies and Sacramento Republic FC! We will have three events throughout June and July to celebrate refugees, starting with a family fun day and refugee adult soccer tournament on June 8th, followed by a storytelling night on June 20th, and finalized with Sacramento Republic FC’s home game on July 13th spotlighting World Relief Sacramento. During that game, a trophy will be presented at halftime to the winners of our June 8th refugee soccer tournament.

Please visit the World Refugee Day website to learn more about how you can be involved at our resource fair (early bird registration through May 8th), as a sponsor/volunteer/player, or if you just want to come and enjoy this FREE event. We are expecting Mayor Steinberg to be there again and to make the event bigger and better this year!

Feel free to contact me with any questions – I’m looking forward to seeing you all there.
