A report titled, "Study of Student Basic Needs" was released by California State University in January of 2018. Across 11 campuses, a comprehensive mixed-methods study of students' unmet basic needs and the impact on student success was conducted.

In this study, 41.6% of California State University (CSU) students reported food insecurity. Of the 41.6%, 20% experienced low food security and 21.6% very low food insecurity. Students who identified as Black/African American and first-generation to attend college experienced the highest rate of food insecurity (65.9%) and homelessness (18%).

Dialogue Workshop for Faith Leaders
Dialogue Workshop for Faith Leaders

How do we honor the foundations of our faith in such challenging times? How do we lead the faithful through this divisive and polarized landscape? Following a faith that calls for recognizing, connecting with and even serving the ‘others’ in our midst has never been more challenging and necessary. As we become more polarized in this country and in this region; we become positions and not people. When we lose connection with our humanity violence increases.

You are invited to a day of experiential training focused on the transformative power of dialogue that helps lead communities through division into a common good. Participants will be introduced to tools and practices that can be used immediately.

Cabaret on K - Live Music & Art
Women's Empowerment invites you to join us at "Cabaret on K", an evening of live music and local art benefiting homeless women and children in Sacramento.

The uniquely talented Rogue Music Project will be joining us again -- and this time, they're bringing you a lineup that's to die for! You can expect cabaret and jazzy favorites, along with a mix of classical and musical theatre pieces, all with a hauntingly beautiful twist. We had such a great turnout last year that our venue was filled to the brim, so this time around we are offering *TWO* separate performance seatings. That means you can catch Rogue Music Project's Carrie Hennessey, Omari Tau, Jen Reason, Sarah Fitch, and CapRadio's own Kevin Doherty, at either 6:00 PM or 7:45 PM that night.

Regardless of what performance seating you choose, the event will also feature an art gallery that will remain open throughout the night. We'll be showcasing amazing artwork from a few of our region's talented creatives. And 50% or more of all proceeds from art sold that night will go directly back to Women's Empowerment!

Complimentary desserts will be offered, and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the night. And don't forget -- every dollar raised by this event helps transform the lives of homeless women and children through education, employment, and empowerment.
