Shooting Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh
Saturday, October 27, 2018

Dear faith leaders

On behalf of the Interfaith Council of Greater Sacramento, our prayers go to the families of the dead in the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, as they deal with this tragedy of shooting today in their Synagogue. We pray that they overcome the fears that come with this senseless killing of innocent people in the places worship. Let us keep them in our prayers.

Peace,
Edrine Ddungu
President, Interfaith Council of Greater Sacramento

Muslims at SALAM Community stand hand in hand with our brothers and sisters in the Jewish Community
Saturday, October 27, 2018

As Americans, we stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters to declare that we will never tolerate these acts of bigotry, hate, and violence. As Muslims, we know too well how it feels to be afraid in our own houses of worship. We hope that as you hug your children before bed tonight, you will feel a little bit safer knowing that we feel your pain and have your back. As I, as the President of the Interfaith Service Bureau in June 1999, stated after the burning of the three Synagogues during the “United We Stand” event at the Memorial Auditorium: “An attack on one place of worship, is an attack on all places of worship”.

Please share this message with whoever believes in the solidarity of all peoples of faith.

With God’s guidance and blessings,

Metwalli Amer
Founder of SALAM Islamic Center

Statement by the Council of Sacramento Valley Islamic Organizations (COSVIO) in response to the deadly attack on the Jewish community in Pittsburgh, PA

(Sacramento, CA, 10/27/2018) – The Council of Sacramento Valley of Islamic Organizations (COSVIO) condemns Saturday’s savage and cowardly attack on Jewish worshippers and stands in solidarity with the Jewish community during this time of grief. The Imams and leaders of the Sacramento Valley Islamic institutions join our fellow Americans of all faiths and backgrounds in offering prayers and condolences to the victims and their families. This savage act was intended to terrorize the entire Jewish community and we hope all Americans join together to speak out unequivocally against the ideology of hate underlying this heinous act.

COSVIO includes all the region’s Imams (Muslim religious leaders) and mosque leadership and represents over 75,000 diverse Muslims in the Sacramento Valley.
