ICL Honors Staff as Part of 2014 Social Work Month

Joins NASW and the Nation in Celebrating Social Work Professionals

With the Theme "All People Matter"

New York, NY, April 3, 2014 - ICL, Inc. held an in-house celebration for about 40 guests to honor their social work staff as part of 2014 Social Work Month. The event was held on March 28, 2014 at ICL's headquarters in lower Manhattan.

"We based the event on the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Social Work Month theme, 'All People Matter' ," says Ben Sher, ICL Associate Vice President for Training and Staff Development, who helped organize the event. "We just added 'And You Matter To Us!' to show our social workers how much they are appreciated and how important their role is to ICL and to society."

The event was attended by ICL staff social workers, psychologists and leaders of the agency including Chief Program Officer Maureen Italiano and Chief Operating Officer Chris Copeland, both of whom are licensed social workers. After ICL President and CEO David Woodlock gave the opening remarks, staff members reflected on why they chose to become social workers. A tasty lunch was followed by a lively game of Social Work Jeopardy, led by David Kamnitzer, SVP of Adult Mental Health Services, Brooklyn.

The purpose of Social Work Month is to help raise public awareness of the vital role that social workers have played for the past 116 years in improving social conditions and quality of life for everyone, and especially those trying to overcome obstacles.

"I think David touched on a theme when he says that all of us at ICL share the same values and the same mission as social workers, namely to provide social justice, advocacy, and counseling for individuals in need," says Sher. "We see it everyday at ICL that treating people with dignity and respect is essential to improving family relationships, making social support systems more effective, and building stronger communities."
