In the Spotlight
On Sunday, March 19th, Senator Dick Durbin and U.S. Congressman Danny Davis hosted a press conference at the University of Chicago announcing the introduction of the Trauma Informed Care for Children and Families Act
This new legislation addresses the lack of identification, referral, and immediate support for children who experience trauma in the Chicago metropolitan area and throughout the nation.  The bill aims to provide the tools parents, teachers, doctors, service providers, and first responders need to identify and understand trauma and help kids get the support they need.  It also expands treatment and funding to improve training and increase the number of providers to meet the needs of traumatized children.
The legislation has been endorsed by several national and Chicago-area organizations, including ICTC members who have had an active role in engaging Senator Durbin in learning about trauma and advocating for this bill.  Click HERE for a summary of the new legislation and HERE for section-by-section overview.
