Self-Talk: The Voice Inside Your Head
Self-Talk...we all do it..And it can help or hurt. Take the self talk in the gym this morning. 5:30am and no one was super thrilled to have left a warm bed to lift weights. But the difference in what people were saying to themselves was amazing!
The grump grousing about it being too early for working out and not being a morning person struggled with every lift. The woman who walked in smiling about the sunrise and kept saying to herself, "I can do five more of anything!" as she was finishing her last few reps had a strong workout!.
That voice in our head has a lot of power. Read on for perspectives and tips from the TLG team to help you tame or build up your self talk. Enjoy!

From the Experts: Self-Talk
Whether we realize it or not we all talk to ourselves. Self-talk has a profound effect on our daily lives. We are the controllers of whether our self-talk is positive or negative. Negative self-talk can keep us from becoming who we truly want to be. It can keep us from trying new things. It can keep us from speaking up. Negative self-talk can even ensnare us in awful habits. Positive self-talk, on the other hand, can empower us! Honing positive self-talk can increase our confidence, effectiveness, and productivity. The challenge is to develop that positive self-talk. Our default is often negative. We asked our experts how positive and negative self-talk can affect on us in the workplace, and ways in which we can develop positive self-talk.

By Tino Mantella, President & CEO, TLG
Excerpt:
I tend to believe that there is a more powerful force than self-affirmation - the positive voices of others. Those that, for a variety of reasons, offer negative feedback like “you are not ready,” “you need more time”, or “you need to wait your turn.”...

The Power of Thought: Why we all Should be Masters of Mindfulness
By Josh Turknett, MD, TLG Principal Consultant
Excerpt:
The brain is capable of influencing virtually every single organ system in the body. And if thoughts are the direct product of brain activity, then thoughts alone are capable of influencing virtually every single organ system in the body. Which is exactly how and why thoughts can drop our blood pressure so low that we faint or cause a contraction of our stomach violent enough to expel its contents...
