Summer Camps

🌞Because children with dyslexia are often overwhelmed by the pace of the classroom, gaps in their learning can occur. Attending a summer learning camp can give a child an important opportunity to fill those gaps while also enjoying traditional camp activities. We at IDA-GA have compiled a list of Overnight and Day Camps offering Structured Literacy remediation opportunities along with traditional summer camp activities: https://ga.dyslexiaida.org/summer-camps/

Spotlight on Structured Literacy 2024

  • The 1st webinar recorded in January 2024 addresses the alignment of the three legislative measures in Georgia and the potential impact on changing the trajectory of literacy in Georgia.

  • The "Aligning" guidance document, Aligning State Literacy Policies and Practices, is referenced in the webinar. It is frequently updated to help keep stakeholders informed. The most current version was updated in February 2024. The next revised version should be out in the next month or so.

Considerations for English Learners

This new resource guide was created by the GaDOE in April 2024. Dyslexia affects individuals in all cultures and languages, and this guide addresses important considerations for the successful identification and monitoring of students who are both multilingual English Learners (ELs) and at risk for learning disabilities, including dyslexia.

Because it can be difficult to determine whether the literacy needs of students who are learning English as an additional language are the result of ongoing language development or of a learning disability, ELs may experience delayed, over-, or under-identification of disabilities.
