IDHA's House Bill Passed!

IDHA's HB2267 passed the Illinois House and Senate and will take effect immediately after Governor Pritzker signs it into law. This Bill cleans up errors and updates language in the Illinois Dental Practice Act. It provides that a dentist may enter into a collaborative supervision agreement with four (rather than two) public health dental hygienists. This new law will increase access to oral care in Illinois

Facts on Dental Assistant Scaling

Text Link

* Starting January 2023, Dental Assistants (DAs) must have a (2023) 32-hour Coronal Scaling certificate to perform coronal scaling on children up to 17 years.

* DAs with a 16-hour Scaling Certificate were NOT "grandfathered in" and may NOT continue providing coronal scaling.

* If you see a DA scaling that does not have a 2023 scaling certificate, inform your dentist this is illegal and the DA is no longer certified to scale.

* If the dentist continues to delegate illegal DA services, document the circumstances and report the dentist to the Board of Dentistry.

* To discuss questions or concerns on DA scaling, contact IDHA leaders at the email address on the Fact Sheet, below.

* All Dental Assisting Scaling certificates become invalid on January, 1 2026.
