Greetings!
Welcome to 2021 – probably not what we all had in mind, but here we go! Normally we would be tying up the loose ends and any final pieces for the Forum. Just in case you have not seen it yet, the new date for the Forum is June 22-23 – same location and same great program that was prepared. We’ll all look forward to being together in June!
We want to thank all of you that have taken care of your membership payments and encourage those that have not to please go ahead and do it now. Each of you are very important to us and together we are stronger. We will continue to work on the issues that affect our producers, always with a focus to “make Indiana the most desirable state in which to produce milk!”
I am looking forward to being with your Board of Directors next week, discussing many of those issues and putting together plans as we move forward as an organization. This is also a great time to say thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors, as none of this would be possible without you. Please never hesitate to reach out to me anytime with ideas or concerns about what we are doing.
Please be safe and may God bless our families, our farms, and our nation!

On any given day at Homestead Dairy in Plymouth, Indiana you’ll find cows interacting with robots on a dairy homesteaded in the early 1900s. When most people think about cows and robots, milking robots come to mind, and while Homestead is one of the largest robotic dairies in the country, their
use of technology on all three of their dairies goes way beyond that.
Many farms use innovative technology, but few have made so many different kinds work together on their farms to achieve such productivity, sustainability and high quality of life for their cows and employees. That’s why the International Dairy Foods Association and Dairy Herd Management chose Homestead Dairy as the 2021 Innovative Dairy Farmers of the Year.
Brian and Jill Houin, along with 14 family members and more than 30 non-family employees, employ robotic milking systems, automatic calf feeders, methane digestion and more,........Read more HERE

Newly released federal dietary guidelines will benefit dairy, even as work remains to be done, said Miquela Hanselman, NMPF’s regulatory affairs manager, in a podcast released today.
“Dairy is in a good place,” Hanselman said. “Three servings of low-fat and non-fat dairy are continued to be recommended in the healthy U.S. and vegetarian diets, and dairy remained its own group. In addition, dairy was recognized as a source of under-consumed nutrients, which are also known as nutrients of public health concern.”
Hanselman also discusses the need to incorporate up-to-date research on dairy in fats in the next round of guidelines and talks about their impact on encouraging the next generation of milk-drinkers. To listen to the full discussion, click HERE.
