iREDEFINE Final Call for Student Applications 2024

Due Friday, January 12, 2024

Student Application Link

Dear ECE Department Heads, Faculty Members, and Administrators,

It is our pleasure to invite students in your department to apply to participate in Impact: Redefining Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty (iREDEFINE), an ECEDHA-sponsored workshop designed to increase the number of women and underrepresented minorities (URMs) among the faculty in ECE departments.

As in past years, iREDEFINE will be held in parallel with the annual meeting of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Association (ECEDHA) Annual Conference & ECExpo. The iREDEFINE Fellows will have dedicated programming designed to encourage and facilitate their path into academia. The close ties with ECEDHA provides a unique opportunity for the iREDEFINE Fellows to also attend general ECEDHA sessions, present their research to department chairs and participate in mock interviews. This year iREDEFINE will take place March 15-18, 2024, at the El Conquistador Hilton in Tucson, Arizona. iREDEFINE Fellows will receive a professional development award to cover registration to the ECEDHA Annual Conference, hotel accommodations, meals, and travel expenses.

iREDEFINE Eligibility

Eligible candidates are PhD students who are women or URMs, no more than two years away from the completion of their PhD degree. Eligible candidates must also have a strong interest in an academic career. U.S. Citizenship is not required.

iREDEFINE Application process

Students are asked to complete the online application located here by Friday, January 12, 2024. Fellows will be selected by the iREDEFINE committee. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, January 26, 2024.

In addition to nominating your students, we hope you will also join us in Tucson for the ECEDHA Annual Conference & ECExpo. ECEDHA has been in existence for more than 50 years and maintains an active membership of nearly 300 chairs from across the United States and Canada. ECEDHA's three-day Annual Conference is the only program of its kind for department heads in electrical and computer engineering. It brings together prominent figures from academic, government, and industry to deliver presentations on emerging key technologies, panels on the latest teaching innovations, and sessions addressing the most pressing issues facing ECE.

Thank you for your consideration.

Regards,

Agnieszka Miguel & Barbara Marino

IEC FuSe Workshop

March 15 - 18, 2024

Tucson, Arizona

El Conquistador, A Hilton Resort

Dear Department Heads & Core Member Faculty,

The IEC is excited to invite our Core Member department chairs and faculty members to participate in the FuSe project workshop series (Future Semiconductor: Interconnecting Learning for Next Generation Semiconductor Innovators). These workshops aim to foster collaboration, innovation, and equitable partnerships among our institutions and FuSe project faculty from RPI, Notre Dame, and Cornell as we work to co-design microelectronics education to address the extraordinary workforce needs of the CHIPs ACT. By collectively designing and delivering a full complement of microelectronics courses, interested students from all Core IEC Member departments will be fully prepared for successful careers in microelectronics.

We invite at least one faculty member per university to represent your institution. With funding from the FuSe project, the IEC is able to offer financial support to either an instructor with experience or interest in teaching microelectronics or a department head to participate in this phase. IEC faculty will form cohorts with FuSe Project faculty focusing on the essential learning pathway transitions: K-12 to 1st Year, 2-Year to 4-Year, Undergrad General Curriculum to Microelectronics Specialization, and Undergrad to Grad.

For those chosen to participate in the in-person meeting, the IEC can offer:

  • ECEDHA Conference Registration for March 15-18, 2024 in Tucson Arizona
  • 5 nights of hotel accommodations at the Hilton Conquistador (conference location)
  • Up to $1000 travel reimbursement
