Renew Your Electrical License
|
|
The state of Texas requires all licensed electricians to have a current electrical license (Master, Journeyman or Apprentice License).
TDLR is waiving continuing education requirements for all electrical licenses expiring in June, 2020. Licensees will still submit to TDLR their renewal applications, pay the required fees and have their criminal histories checked but they will not need to complete any required continuing education requirements this licensing cycle.
4 hour Continuing Education
classes for electrical license renewal are available online. 4 hour continuing education classes will also be held weekly at the chapter training facility starting July 11, 2020. Visit our website or click the appropriate registration button below for registration and more information.
Remember to log on to the
TDLR website
to pay the fee to renew your electrical license. IEC submits the renewal information for CE courses completed with IEC.

President Trump Signs Bill Amending PPP Into Law
Since being established as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act in March 2020, the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) has been the subject of additional stimulus bills, legal guidance and interim final rules. In the latest development, Congress passed the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act of 2020, which is a bill that provides borrowers with greater flexibility in spending PPP funds without compromising forgiveness eligibility. President Donald Trump signed the bill into law on Friday, June 5, 2020.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE BILL?
The bill, which passed with a bipartisan vote, makes the following amendments to the PPP to provide relief to borrowers:
- Loan repayment terms—The bill extends the minimum loan term for unforgiven PPP loans from two years to five years.
- Payroll costs vs. nonpayroll costs— For forgiveness eligibility, the bill reduces the portion of PPP funds that must be spent on payroll costs from 75% to 60%, and raises the nonpayroll cost limitation from 25% to 40%

Employee Temperature-taking Policy: When and How?
Question
What is the best way to implement an employee temperature-taking policy? Should it be required of everyone or should it be used only for employees who are returning to work after being sick, or other times? What type of thermometer is best? When, where and how should the temperature be taken? What are the actions an employer should take based on the resultant number?
Answer
The EEOC released
COVID 19-related guidance
, which directly addresses the topic of taking employee temperatures at Questions A.3, B.1., and B.2. Specifically it provides that “employers may measure employees' body temperature. However, employers should be aware that some people with COVID-19 do not have a fever.” It also addresses employer obligations to maintain confidentiality if it does so. We recommend reviewing this guidance as a part of any effort to take employee temperatures. We also note that the CDC has issued guidance that references integration of temperature monitoring under certain circumstances, which can be viewed at
Implementation of Mitigation Strategies for Communities with Local COVID-19 Transmission
and is also a helpful resource.
