A Fully Digital Polarimetric Phased Array Radar for Weather Observations
This paper reports on the development of a fully digital phased array weather radar. The “Horus” radar is a truck-based, S-band, fully digital polarimetric phased array radar. Fully digital systems hold promise for meeting some of the greatest technical challenges facing the meteorological community, such as the effective integration of dual-polarization capability with phased array beam agility. An overview of the advantages and challenges facing fully digital arrays for weather observations is provided along with potential mitigation strategies.

A W-Band SPDT Photoconductive Evanescent-Mode Waveguide Switch
This letter presents a silicon micromachined photoconductive evanescent (EVA)-mode waveguide SPDT switch. Two EVA-mode waveguides loaded with silicon posts are placed in a Y configuration with a common feeding waveguide. Without photoexcitation, the dielectric posts and EVA channel exhibit a bandpass filter response with insertion loss of 2.0 dB at 96.7 GHz.

A 19 μW Blocker-Tolerant Wake-Up Receiver With -90 dBm Energy-Enhanced Sensitivity
A 915-MHz energy-enhanced wake-up receiver (EE WuRx) is proposed for wireless energy-harvesting systems based on a modified legacy device. Using frequency-hopping two-tone modulation, the receiver converts the in-band harvesting energy (HE) from the legacy device into the data power with reduced constraint to the HE frequency.

An mm-Wave Trilayer AlN/ScAlN/AlN Higher Order Mode FBAR
This paper presents a film bulk acoustic wave resonator (FBAR) with a composite ferroelectric/piezoelectric transduction layer that is capable of selectively operating at higher-order resonant modes without compromising the electromechanical coupling factor (kt2) for applications in the millimeter wave spectrum. The resonator exhibits a fundamental mode at 9 GHz with a kt2 of 5.2% but can switch to a higher-order response at 31 GHz by reversing the polarization direction in the ScAlN layer (kt2 of 5.5%).

Toward the Integration of Fully 3-D Printed Surface-Mounted MW Ceramic Filters
This paper proposes a feasible way to perform the integration of heterogeneous electronic circuit technologies and fully 3-D printed ceramic microwave devices. Additive manufacturing capabilities are explored for the development of multifunction surface-mount compact components. Monolithic ceramic bandpass filters are designed to operate in X-Band and to assess the typical limitations of ceramic SLA processes.
