| | Mesh Space Mapping Technique for Microwave Filter Design | This article develops a mesh space mapping (MSM) technique between low-fidelity (coarse) and high-fidelity (fine) models to accelerate the EM simulation of microwave structures such as antennas, filters and substrate ICs at the circuit level and enhance the optimization efficiency. The radial basis function technique is incorporated into a mesh morphing algorithm applied to the coarse mesh structure to overcome discontinuities that arise from mesh reconstruction. Approaches to sharpen structural processing and simplify structures for the coarse space are introduced. The Matrix Padé via Lanczos (MPVL) method is incorporated into the finite element calculations to significantly reduce the computation workload. Several design examples illustrate the effectiveness of the technique. | | | |
| | From Radio Waves to Wellness: Radar and Machine Learning for Noncontact Dehydration Assessment | This paper introduces a novel, noninvasive, and contactless method for dehydration measurement using a frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar operating at center frequencies of 10 GHz and 77 GHz. The proposed framework begins with a customized preprocessing technique designed to isolate the signal corresponding to the target of interest (ToI) from the received radar data, ensuring that the extracted features reliably reflect physiological indicators of hydration status. To capture the complex, nonlinear patterns associated with dehydration, a wavelet scattering transform (WST)-based feature extraction method was employed, which provides robust input for machine learning models. These features are then used to train and evaluate various classifiers, the best one being neural networks (NN), which accurately classify protocol sessions. | | | | MTT-S News and Announcements | | Virtual Workshop for AI for Microwave Technologies | | |

| | MTT-S Volunteer Spotlight | | MTT-S Africa Initiative Visit to South Africa | | |
A delegation of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Society (MTT-S) visited Cape Town and Stellenbosch, South Africa, in March 2026, in the framework of the Africa Initiative and in preparation for the International Microwave and Antenna Symposium (IMAS 2027), planned for South Africa in October 2027. The visiting delegation included the MTT-S President Anding Zhu and some MTT-S past presidents, comprising Goutam Chattopadhyay, Maurizio Bozzi, Nuno Borges Carvalho, and Samir El-Ghazaly. Moreover, a representative of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S), Heinrich Laue from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, also joined the visit.
The visit aimed to strengthen engagement among academia, industry, and the broader microwave engineering community while promoting opportunities for collaboration and participation in IEEE activities across the region. The program was coordinated locally by Carla Pieterse (MTT-S Young Professional representative for South Africa), who organized a series of visits and interactions designed to maximize engagement with researchers, engineers, and students.

| | An Advanced Optimization Method for Shaping Frequency-Dependent Performance of RF Power Amplifiers | In this letter, an advanced method is proposed to shape the frequency-dependent performance of radio frequency (RF) power amplifiers (PAs). The core of the method lies in employing a multiobjective ivy algorithm (MOIVYA), which is used to optimize the performance of PAs across different operating frequency bands. Additionally, an improved objective function is employed to refine the performance metrics of frequency responses. For validation, three distinct frequency responses of the PA are simulated on the same circuit, and the dual-frequency one is then fabricated to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method. Measurements show that the PA achieves an efficiency above 68% at 2.2–2.4 GHz and 3.5–3.6 GHz, with output power exceeding 41.0 and 40.9 dBm, respectively, confirming the method’s effectiveness. | | | |
| | A W-Band Noise-Canceling LNA With Geometry-Synthesized Asymmetric Transformer and Stage-Dependent Neutralization | Conventional optimization for millimeter-wave noise-canceling (NC) LNAs faces schematic-to-layout EM discrepancies and tradeoffs between cancellation depth and noise matching. This letter presents a W-band LNA featuring a geometry-synthesized asymmetric transformer (GS-AT). By directly mapping physical dimensions to amplitude and phase compensation conditions, the GS-AT ensures deep noise cancellation without iterative tuning. Additionally, a stage-dependent strategy exploits the second-stage intrinsic Miller effect to achieve passive noise matching with the GS-AT. Fabricated in 28-nm bulk CMOS, the LNA achieves a measured peak gain of 27.5 dB, a 3-dB bandwidth of 79–98 GHz, and a minimum noise figure (NF) of 5.67 dB, verifying the efficacy of the geometry-based synthesis. | | | | |
