IFA Global Café Pain Management Series

In light of Pain Awareness Month, the IFA’s Global Café will be hosting a special edition series focused on the impact of pain in ageing populations.

In partnership with Haleon, this 3-part pain management series will feature leading experts discussing key topics in the field.

The first part of this series will highlight the burden of pain on ageing populations, including prevalence and impact on quality of life, with Professor Patrice Forget, Clinical Chair in Anaesthesia, Epidemiology Group, at the University of Aberdeen, and Honorary Consultant at NHS Grampian.

Interactive dialogue: Raising awareness of RSV as part of your vaccine preventable respiratory diseases in Canada.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a serious threat to older adults and those with chronic conditions. With over 3.4 million hospitalizations and 100,000 deaths globally, the recent approval of an RSV vaccine by Health Canada for individuals aged 60 and over, underscores the urgent need for action. 

Join the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) for an online interactive dialogue titled: Raising awareness of RSV as part of your vaccine preventable respiratory diseases in Canada.

The insights gained from this interactive dialogue, along with our national survey will contribute to the development of a consensus statement and adaptable educational resources for vulnerable populations.

The IFA’s webinar, “E-module Course Launch – Demystifying Influenza Vaccination in Canada” aims to bring collective awareness to influenza, its impact amongst older adults, the importance of vaccination to protect against influenza and vaccination recommendations in Canada.

The webinar will also aim to launch IFA’s new e-module course, an educational resource geared towards teaching older Canadians about influenza vaccination. We will be joined by experts and welcome everyone to join us in learning together!

Call for Interest! Are you working to address immunization among older adults?

Vaccination is one of the most successful public health interventions and civil society organizations (CSOs) are powerful advocates for and on behalf of their constituents. Yet, despite their long history of advancing health equity, adult vaccination continues to be a challenge amongst CSO advocacy efforts, with minimal interaction between CSOs and National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs). NITAGs are expert bodies providing evidence-based immunization recommendations to policymakers.

To address this gap, the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) is hosting a global dialogue with CSOs to explore opportunities for advocacy within NITAGs, to emphasize the importance of a life course approach to immunization.

This dialogue will build consensus on integrating CSOs' perspectives into immunization policy development, with the aim of informing a consensus statement and urging broader representation within NITAGs reflecting a person-centred and life course approach.
