Message From Our Team

Greetings from the International Firestop Council,

As we enter the final quarter of 2026, the International Firestop Council (IFC) reflects on a year of meaningful progress, expanded educational outreach, and continued collaboration within the firestop industry. Throughout the year, we have remained focused on advancing firestop inspection practices, strengthening technical knowledge, and supporting the professionals responsible for verifying compliance with applicable building and fire safety codes. Through education, training, and industry engagement, IFC continues to promote the importance of effective fire and smoke containment in protecting lives, preserving property, and enhancing building safety.

Guided by our mission “to promote the technology of fire and smoke containment in building construction through research, education, development of safety standards, testing, and code provisions,” IFC continues to advance initiatives that strengthen industry knowledge, support code compliance, and improve the quality of fire and smoke compartmentation in buildings worldwide.

Education and professional development remain at the forefront of our efforts. Throughout 2026, IFC has continued expanding its Firestop Inspection and Plan Review Training for Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), reaching hundreds of building and fire code officials across the country. Our Firestop Special Inspector Certificate Program and manufacturer-supported training initiatives have also continued to grow, providing professionals with the technical knowledge and practical experience needed to evaluate firestop installations effectively. We encourage code officials and industry professionals to explore our training opportunities and available online educational resources.

A highlight of the third quarter was the success of our Firestop Special Inspector and Manufacturer Product Training held in Palm Beach, Florida. The event brought together more than 30 attendees and representatives from five firestop manufacturers for a comprehensive educational experience combining technical instruction with practical, product-specific training. Participants gained valuable insight into firestop systems, installation requirements, inspection procedures, and common field challenges, while engaging directly with manufacturers and industry experts. The strong participation and positive engagement reinforced the importance of combining independent technical education with hands-on product knowledge. We look forward to building on this successful program and expanding similar training opportunities in 2027.

Our recent Fall Membership Meeting in Ohio provided another valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships, exchange technical knowledge, and establish priorities for the coming year. As we move through the remainder of 2026, IFC looks forward to continued engagement with members and industry stakeholders through conferences, training programs, committee activities, and code development initiatives.

Looking ahead to 2027, we remain committed to expanding educational opportunities, supporting quality firestop inspections, advancing codes and standards, and providing the technical resources our industry relies upon. None of these accomplishments would be possible without the dedication of our members, volunteers, industry partners, and the many professionals who share our commitment to building safety.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement.Together, we are strengthening fire and smoke containment, advancing the firestop industry, and helping create safer buildings for generations to come!

The International Firestop Council (IFC) is pleased to announce its new partnership as a Sponsoring Partner of the recently established Tennessee Fire Marshals Association (TFMA), an organization dedicated to advancing fire prevention, professional education, and life safety throughout Tennessee. We are also proud to recognize Lance Sutton, IFC's Regional Firestop Training Coordinator for Tennessee, on his appointment as Chair of TFMA's Training & Education Committee. This partnership represents an exciting opportunity to expand firestop training and educational, strengthen relationships with fire marshals and code officials, and promote greater awareness of firestop inspection requirements and practices across the state.
