President’s Message
“Aye, and how yuh do?” This means “Hi, and how are you?” in Trinidad and Tobago. As I write this, I’m eagerly anticipating my trip to the Caribbean Association of Home Economics (CAHE). Conference in April. We will start with a pre-conference workshop on artificial intelligence on April 12, then a church service and opening ceremony on April 13.
As with all conferences, I look forward to learning new things, making new friends, networking, connecting with colleagues, and strategizing ways to improve the lives of those we serve as FCS professionals. Our profession is full of wonderfully creative minds open to sharing what works for them in their communities as they tackle the challenges of technology, food insecurity, housing shortages, healthcare issues, environmental issues, education pipelines, workforce development, government regulations, and so much more. I look forward to robust discussions!
Now, more than ever, FCS matters. We must tell our story to financial decision-makers and get our programs out to those who need what we have to offer. We have the evidence base, program development, implementation, and evaluation skills. We have effective stories of lives changed through FCS programs. What we sometimes lack is a loud enough microphone or a tall enough stage from which to tell our story. However, I know that together our voices are loud enough, and our stage is tall enough to be heard.
I can’t wait to come back from CAHE and share what I learn to keep our FCS story going and proving that FCS Matters!
