President’s Message

Happy October!

We hope you have had a good start to this beautiful season. It is always a spectacular season with the bright colors and time outdoors. We hope you can enjoy it with family and friends.

We start this newsletter with some sad news. Rachel Schichtl, President of IFHE-US, resigned her position in September due to health issues. Rachel has served as Director, Communications and, in her role as President-Elect, played a critical role in facilitating the Development Grants. We wish Rachel and her family well. We know she will continue to be a member of IFHE and IFHE-US and support the work of our organization.

The IFHE-US Board of Directors is working to appoint a President. According to the IFHE-US Bylaws, the Board of Directors will appoint a replacement of an officer if a position becomes vacant. Until that position is appointed, I will serve as Interim President. We hope to have a new President in place in the next few months.

We hope you will join us on Saturday, October 19 at noon for the next IFHE-US webinar. Kim Kamin, Director of Programs and Professional Development, has organized a thoughtful program focusing on one of our colleagues, Dr. Jane Opiri, an Associate Professor of Merchandising, Textiles and Design at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, who will share her journey and experiences as a Kenyan who had the desire to become a Family and Consumer Sciences professional. More information about this webinar is in this newsletter.

Copies of the IFHE-US History are available for sale and for shipping. Later in the newsletter is the process for ordering your copy!

We hope you will be able to participate in many, if not all, of the activities we are planning for this year.

Thank you for your continued support of IFHE and IFHE-US. If you have any questions about our organization or have suggestions to make your membership more meaningful, please let me know.

Enjoy the rest of 2024!

Sue Buck

Past President, IFHE-US

As the newly elected IFHE-US United Nations (UN) Chair, I want to thank Anita Ferron for her United Nations leadership and guidance. This past month, we had the opportunity to speak. The knowledge gained will help me transition into this new leadership role. I am honored to serve in this capacity as IFHE United Nations Chair for the next four years. Let’s start this journey together by becoming aware of the 17 United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

“The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more

sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. The 17 Goals are all interconnected, and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve them all by 2030." (United Nations website)

Visit the UN Website

My suggestion is to click on any of the 17 specific Goals on the website provided and watch the video to learn more about each issue and take action. These goals will help you create a plan with colleagues, and share information with people with whom you interact within your community, schools, and civic roles. I encourage us to work together to educate others.
