Bob Bruttell Leads a Conversation at the Faith and Education Forum

The Faith and Public Education Forum welcomed Bob Bruttell, Vice-Chairman of IFLC, as a guest speaker on October 15th. Bob writes “I was proud to provide the Plenary Talk titled “Are Our Children Sacred Today” for Detroit School Board member Bishop Corletta Vaughn’s conference on Faith and Education. Many faith leaders from around Detroit were in attendance, and I was elated that my thoughts seemed to be well-received. It was powerfully gratifying to be with so many people whose faith demands that they love and care for children.”

Look for the InterFaith Leadership Council’s 13th podcast in its Faith & Works series. The featured guest participant of this particular podcast is Saba Maroof, M.D., a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. They explore the challenges of raising children in today’s society—including the responsibilities of parents, religious institutions, and the general community.

InterFaith Leadership Council Participates in Diwali Legacy Dinner

Earlier this week, many gathered with elected officials and community leaders of Michigan in celebration of Diwali. This successful event was generously hosted by ChIPS. ChIPS is the formation of a non-partisan platform that unite the various language groups of our collective Indian community for involvement in politics, cultural amalgamation, and economic unity in terms of open minds.

Dr. Anil Kumar, Board of Directors of IFLC, is on the ChIPS Board and aided in the coordination of this event.

Also in attendance on behalf of IFLC were Stancy Adams, Bob Bruttell, Dr. Jakki Nelson, and Radhika Shukla.

Bob Bruttell, InterFaith Leadership Council’s Vice-Chairman and host of the Faith & Works series, discusses "Is Our Humanity Sacred?".

Joining Bob are special guests Rev. Dr. Jimmie Wafer- Board member of InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit, co- chair of Bridging to Belonging, an IFLC program, and Pastor of New Mt. Zion Mission Baptist Church in Detroit and Rachel Cannon- Co- chair of Bridging to Belonging, an IFLC program, and board member of Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit.

Listen in as we discuss how we are living in a tremendously unsettled world right now. It is a time when we are more likely to treat others as a commodity. Others are seen as being with us or against us; as serving us and our desires or not. We are wary of each other.

In this state of mind, we have made it very difficult to recognize the preciousness of others, and to view humanity as sacred.
