Keynote Speakers Announced for IFNC14

The IFNA Conference Committee is pleased to announce two keynote speakers for the 14th International Family Nursing Conference (IFNC14) who will address important social determinants of family health that have meaning for family nursing:

Gala True, PhD, is an Investigator with the South Central Mental Illness Research and Education Center (MIRECC) at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVCHS) and Associate Professor of Community and Population Medicine at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. With a background in folklore and anthropology, her research focuses on improving access to care and the health of individuals and communities through patient-centered and community-engaged research approaches

Sheila Dinotshe Tlou, PhD, RN, FAAN, is currently serving in Johannesburg, South Africa as the Co-Chair of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition. From 2010 to June 2017 she was Director of the UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Eastern and Southern Africa. Dr. Tlou has been involved in the AIDS response from the time the epidemic started in 1985.
   
FAMILY NURSING PRACTICE NEWS 
New information has been added to the IFNA Practice Committee initiative to track and document the dissemination of the IFNA Position Statements.

Please note a new publication by IFNA members, Dr. Sarah Neill (UK), and Dr. Imelda Coyne (Ireland) that cites the IFNA Position Statements on Generalist and Advanced Practice Family Nursing Competencies. [Read more]

FAMILY NURSING RESEARCH NEWS 
Cristina Alfaro Díaz (Spain) is a doctoral student at the University of Navarra who is involved a pioneering research project led by Dr. Ana Canga-Armayor (Spain) and Dr. Nuria Esandi (Spain) aimed at translating family nursing knowledge into clinical practice at the University Hospital. Tara Tehan (USA) is a doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Graduate School of Nursing and the Nurse Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. Her dissertation research is focused on patient and family centered care in the intensive care unit and she has been collaborating with and learning from family nursing researchers in the IFNA International Research Cluster. IFNC14 CONFERENCE COMMITTEE NEWS

Please share the IFNA Position Statements with local and national nursing and health care leaders and organizations. Social media toolkits are available for each IFNA Position Statement. Dr. Lorraine Wright (Canada) and Dr. Janice Bell (Canada) will be offering a 4-day Family Externship in Akureyi, Iceland, October 9-12, 2018.  The workshop will focus on increasing competence and confidence in generalist and advanced practice with families and is open to all health care professionals.
