GeoAmericas 2020: The Buzz on the First Online Geosynthetics Conference
The 4th Pan-American Regional Conference on Geosynthetics (GeoAmericas 2020) will take place online 26 – 31 October 2020. This marks the first major geosynthetics conference to be held in an entirely digital format. Registered participants will be able to login daily and view live lectures and technical sessions, interact with presenters during Q&A time, network, and take the short courses. The Giroud Lecture – 30 Years And Counting
Geosynthetics pioneer J.P. Giroud was coming to the end of his opening address at the 5th International Conference on Geosynthetics (ICG) in 1994 when he was presented with an unexpected honor. The IGS decided to establish a prestigious new lecture – created to recognize exceptional achievement and influence in the field of geosynthetics – in his name. Nearly 30 years later the IGS Giroud Lecture speaker series is still going strong with an alumni that reads like a who’s who of the industry. READ MORE

IGS Prepares For Kyoto Launch
The IGS is preparing to take part in the official launch of the Kyoto Landslide Commitment 2020 (KLC2020) in November. KLC2020 outlines 10 priority actions to mitigate the significant environmental, socio-economic and human costs of landslides. The IGS was among the first signatories at a ceremony held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, in September 2019. That event was part of an International Consortium on Landslides (ICL)/International Programme on Landslides (IPL) conference. READ MORE

The IGS eBook on sustainability, launched on Earth Day 2020 in April, is now available in a French language version. The new edition of the eBook, called Preparing the ground for a brighter future, is the first of several translated versions due to be rolled out this year. READ MORE

The IGS UK Chapter resumed its social activities with its annual golf day on September 3rd. Geosynthetics professionals took on a challenging 18-hole course in York, England. The golf day has been running for more than a decade. READ MORE
