Pharma Leads $500 Million Investment Total in 2021
While the pandemic provided a business backdrop unlike any other in history, Indiana’s life sciences industry saw “extraordinary” growth in 2021, says the Indiana Economic Development Corp. Twenty-three life sciences companies in the state committed to investing over $500 million in 2021, and the pharmaceutical sector led the charge, accounting for $381 million of that total. Uniquely positioned for life sciences manufacturing, Indiana is the only state in the U.S. to produce all three COVID-19 vaccines, which also sparked pharma companies to invest heavily in their operations last year.

BioCrossroads celebrates two decades of advancing Indiana’s life sciences sector
February 13, 2022 marked their 20th anniversary
Back in the early 2000’s no one had a doubt that Indiana was home to world-class life sciences assets, but the community was missing the opportunity to collectively advance their strengths. A coalition of organizations and business leaders decided to ensure that Central Indiana and the entire state, took advantage of the sector. With a more than 100-year legacy of life sciences with companies including Eli Lilly and Company, Roche Diagnostics, Cook Medical, and Zimmer BioMet; a significant number of contract research and manufacturing organizations; an emerging start-up community; and three research universities, there was a lot to be gained by having the sector work collaboratively.
Indiana life science companies land a record $433M in venture capital in 2021
Indiana’s life-sciences sector, often hailed as a key driver of the state’s economy, landed a record $433 million in venture funding last year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic that challenged so many other sectors, from restaurants to airlines.

Share the Savings gains momentum in 2022 Indiana legislative session
Despite growing momentum among Hoosiers, Indiana Senate Bill 88 – Share the Savings – did not get called for a vote in the House Financial Institutions and Insurance committee after passing the Senate Health and Provider Services committee by a vote of 7 to 4. SB 88 also passed the Indiana Senate 31 to 18.
SB 88 would have provided relief to thousands of Hoosiers by ensuring their life-saving medications are more affordable by passing through negotiated prescription drug rebates to plan participants at the point of sale, saving many Hoosiers $1,000 or more annually with minimal impact on the overall cost of premiums.
Thank you to all the advocates and partners who supported SB 88 to share the savings with Hoosier patients!
