IHIF Public Policy Alert/Action
SBIR/STTR Reauthorization Sign-On Letter

The authorizing legislation for the SBIR/STTR programs is set to expire on September 30, 2022. This program is of vital importance to many of our nascent and small life sciences and tech companies. Any disruption to the program imperils research programs, delays scientific discovery, and upends the activities of the agencies providing the funding.
IHIF is asking our members, partners, and friends of the Forum to join us in sending a letter to the members of Indiana's federal congressional delegation urging both houses of Congress to act as soon as possible to extend the SBIR/STTR legislation.
If you have received SBIR/STTR funding in the past, hope to receive it in the future, or if you work with products that have been developed with the aid of these programs, we encourage you to add your voice to the call for reauthorization. The sign-on period will run through July 29, 2022. A final copy of the letter will be shared with all signatories. Membership in IHIF is NOT a requirement to participate.
We also encourage you to contact your federal legislators and share why the SBIR/STTR program is important to your efforts.
The Indiana Health Industry Forum provides guidance and leadership on public policy issues that contribute to innovation in the health science sector, deliver therapies to patients in need, and further the development and growth of our member companies. IHIF works at the federal and state level and partners with several other organizations and groups to support specific initiatives and legislation.

Last month, I returned to Indiana, spending time with the Indiana Health Forum and consolidating the relationship we’ve built with them, via the Scottish Lifesciences Association.

Why Indiana? Because we believe there are huge synergies between Indiana and Scotland when it comes to life sciences, and that we have the ability to help each other as this industry continues to grow and grow.

Eiteljorg Museum Plans Scottish Exhibition
One of the interesting conversations that came out of the SLA visit in May was a connection to an upcoming exhibition at the Eiteljorg Museum of Native American Art in Indianapolis. In August 2023, the museum will feature the works of Alfred Jacob Miller - a Scottish landscape artist who sketched and painted scenes of the American West on behalf of his patron, Sir William Drummond Stewart. Originally displayed in Murthly Castle in Perthshire, Scotland, the collection has been reassembled and will be displayed as it would have appeared to Sir Stewart. The paintings show details of the Rendezvous - an important trading event for Native Americans, trappers, traders, and inhabitants of the American West in the 1800s. For more information on the exhibit or if you might have an interest in becoming a corporate sponsor, please learn more. IHIF and SLA are excited to help support this fascinating cultural connection!
