PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Marc
April was another successful month that got started with IHLA hosting our GM Breakfast Meeting on April 4th at the Hilton Chicago/Magnificent Mile Suites. Thanks to Patrick Filatre for hosting the event. State Senator Kwame Raoul and Cook County Commissioner Jeffrey Tobolski spoke to our hotel members on several issues at the State and Cook County levels that affect our industry. Both of our keynote speakers answered questions from the group on a wide range of topics.

On April 28th, IHLA along with Choose Chicago, Illinois Restaurant Association, and The Magnificent Mile Association, co-hosted the first Central Business District Hiring event with the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership called Hospitality Hires Chicago. The event attracted over 50 hospitality companies from various sectors of the tourism industry including 25 hotels and hotel companies. These companies interviewed hundreds of job seekers pre-screened by the Chicago Workforce Partnership. Overall, the event was very successful and the industry looks to host other hiring events in the future.

On May 17-18, AHLA will be hosting its annual Legislative Action Summit (LAS) in Washington, D.C. This year, AHLA is once again joining forces with the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AHHOA) to demonstrate a strong voice for the lodging industry on Capitol Hill. Please join IHLA's large contingency of members in hearing several keynote speakers and then educating our two Illinois Senators and several members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation on key issues affecting our industry at the federal level. Click HERE for more information and to register. Thanks to all our IHLA members who will be joining us and representing Illinois at this national political event during a very interesting period with a new President and a new Congress.

Also in May, IHLA will be hosting our 22nd Annual Hospitality Awards Luncheon on May 23rd during the National Restaurant Show at McCormick Place in Chicago. Al Friedman, Paul Daly, Ginny Morrison, Nabil Moubayed, and Tom Robertson will be honored at the Luncheon. All tickets to the Luncheon include a free badge to the NRA Show that is good for all four days of the Show. Click
HERE for more information and to register.

Finally, the application deadline for IHLA's Educational Foundation 2017/18 academic scholarships is May 10th. IHLAEF plans to award at least $52,000 in scholarships to deserving hospitality students from Illinois for the upcoming school year. Applications for 2017/18 scholarships can be found HERE. Please join us for our annual scholarship fundraiser, Pony Up for the Kids XI on July 13th at Arlington International Racecourse. Click HERE for more information and to register.

Thanks to all of our members for their continued support.
