PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Marc
March was an eventful month starting with IHLA hosting a very successful Lobby Day on March 7th in Springfield. 130 hospitality industry representatives from all over Illinois attended the event, including 56 IHLA members, 33 members from the Illinois Restaurant Association, and 41 members from the Illinois Council of Convention & Visitors Bureaus. The large crowd of hospitality leaders heard from keynote speakers Senate President John Cullerton, New House Tourism Committee Chairman Ann Williams, and a video presentation from Illinois Tourism Director Cory Jobe before lobbying leaders and members of the General Assembly on several key issues affecting the tourism and hospitality industry in Illinois. Everyone was pleased to have Governor Rauner join us and speak at our Legislative Reception. By combining the strength of all three groups, the state legislators heard a strong, unified voice representing all hospitality industry segments from all parts of our state. Thanks to all of our members who supported this important event.

On March 24th, IHLA hosted our wonderful 29th Annual Hospitality Gala at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago. IHLA's 450 hotel industry guests enjoyed terrific food, beverages, and outstanding music from Sway Chicago. Special thanks to Dean Lane and the fantastic staff of the Palmer House Hilton for hosting an extraordinary event to help IHLA celebrate a very successful year for the hotel industry in Illinois.

April is another busy month, kicking off with our GM Breakfast Meeting held on April 4th at the Hilton Chicago/Magnificent Mile Suites. Keynote speakers included State Senator Kwame Raoul and Cook County Commissioner Jeffrey Tobolski who discussed many political issues at the State, County, and City levels. Thanks to Patrick Filatre for hosting the event.

On May 17-18, AH&LA will be hosting its annual Legislative Action Summit (LAS) in Washington, D.C. This year, AH&LA is once again joining forces with the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AHHOA) to demonstrate a strong voice for the lodging industry on Capitol Hill. Please join IHLA's large contingency of members in hearing several keynote speakers and then educating our two Illinois Senators and several members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation on key issues affecting our industry at the federal level. Click
HERE for more information and to register. Thanks to all our IHLA members who will be joining us and representing Illinois at this national political event during a very interesting period with a new President and a new Congress.

Finally, IHLA will be hosting our 22nd Annual Hospitality Awards Luncheon on May 23th during the National Restaurant Show at McCormick Place in Chicago. Al Friedman, Paul Daly, Ginny Morrison, Nabil Moubayed, and Tom Robertson will be honored at the Luncheon. All tickets to the Luncheon include a free badge to the NRA Show that is good for all four days of the Show. Click HERE for more information and to register.

Best regards,

Marc
