Disciple Dispatch

December 12, 2025

This second week of Advent invites us to prepare our hearts actively, not passively, for Christ’s coming. It is a time to embrace peace, repentance, and renewal, guided by the voice of John the Baptist calling us to “prepare the way of the Lord.”

Let Heaven and Nature Sing!

The IHM Christmas Program was a beautiful night as our K-8 music and choir students lifted their voices in praise. A big thank you to Ms. Brown and Mr. Beckon for all their hard work organizing and planning this joyous night.

St. Nicholas' Secret Shop Success!

Our K-8 students had the opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts their families this week. It was absolutley beautiful to see the pure joy in their faces when they picked out the perfect gift for each person on their list. The secret shop is so much more than just buying material things, it's about teaching our kids how to find joy in giving to others in a time that feels like it's all about receiving.

6th Grade Retreat

Our 6th graders spent most of the day today on retreat with Mrs. Byers and some of her Core team members focusing on building and maintining positive and healthy friendships. There were games, snacks, small group talks, affirmations, pizza and more!

Seedling & Gregory Choir Make-Up Rehearsal

Seedling Choir: 3:15 - 3:45 pm

Gregory Choir: 3:15 - 4:15 pm

From the Principal's Desk

Hello IHM Families!

What a very busy week we have had! The Christmas concert on Thursday night was just so lovely! Thank you to Ms. Emily Brown for putting all that together. She worked so hard on preparing the kids and then preparing the environment and both were spot on! It was a wonderful way to take a minute to enjoy the season and prepare for Jesus' birth.

Since we had our first snow day this week, I wanted to communicate how that all comes about. The diocese/superintendent makes the decision for the city schools whether or not to cancel. We have kids coming from all over, so they look at public school districts that are closed as well as city road conditions. This decision is made as early as possible, but the weather in Michigan changes quickly! They have to look at how the conditions are going to evolve throughout the day as well. I get a text from the superintendent when the decision is made and then our team goes to work! I let staff know and have to log in to WoodTV8, Fox17, and WZZM13 to get it on their list. Ms. DeVries sends out the app notification, and Mrs. Dunlap sends out a Constant Contact email as well as posting it on the socials. So there should be a plethora of forms of communication out there. The goal is to keep everyone safe and lighten the load on the roads so they can be cleared. I know that for parents these present extra logistics and we appreciate all that extra work to keep everyone safe!

I see there will be more snow this weekend- it really is beautiful! Stay safe and warm in your pre-Christmas preparations!

Blessings,

Mrs. Holly Lake
