"What's the Value of a Like?"   This is the title of an article in this month's  Harvard Business Review.  The authors have studied the relationship between social media campaigns and increased revenue for the business sector.   According to the study "the mere act of liking a brand on Facebook does not affect a customer's behavior."   The article continues in offering solutions to convert likes into meaningful behavior.

As Catholic Educators and Catechists we already know the value of a like. It goes far beyond any social media platform.  Truly, it goes far beyond the concept of like.   As we journey in another Lenten season, we are confronted with the sublime truth that we are loved unconditionally and that our presence to the students we teach has the capacity to affect them in a transformative way.   Perhaps the poet Hafiz captured it best when he wrote:  "How did the rose ever open its heart and give to the world its Beauty? It felt the encouragement of light against its being.  Otherwise we all remain too frightened."

Thank you for immersing yourself in the light of this Lenten season.   The more that we know the extent of how much we are loved, the more we can be the "encouragement of light" for our students and colleagues.  Your encouragement, your love and your witness, unlike the study in the  Harvard Business Review , not only affects behavior, but also opens up the beauty deep within another. Our frightened world needs you more than ever.

May you know all the blessings that this season has to offer.

With respect and gratitude,
