DONOR SPOTLIGHT

A Story of Support:
The Stove Shop and IHM

Pictured from left to right: Stove Shop manager, Brandon Chapa; current owner, Patrick Ryan; and former owners, Bill and Cyndy Ryan.

The Stove Shop’s role as a bronze sponsor for Sippin’ for the Sisters wasn’t just a business decision as it was the continuation of a family story rooted in faith, gratitude, and the enduring influence of the IHM Sisters.

Patrick Ryan, owner of the Stove Shop, located in Phoenixville, PA, grew up surrounded by the legacy of Catholic education. His grandmother’s family, Irish immigrants with deep Catholic roots, believed strongly in the power of faith‑based schooling. One of his grandmother's cousins was an IHM Sister, a connection that shaped the family’s choices for generations. When it came time for that cousin to begin school, their family chose Villa Maria, trusting the sisters to guide them just as they had guided so many before.

Patrick’s own high school years at Bishop Shanahan, at that time, strengthened that bond. There, Sister Regina Plunkett was the leadership that left a lasting mark on the school and with Patrick. "Sister Regina was such an important influence on me through high school," he said. "I'm very grateful for my time at Shanahan."

At Bishop Shanahan, Patrick watched something remarkable unfold. The Sisters didn’t just teach, they formed leaders. Their presence in the school community was steady, encouraging, and deeply influential. They nurtured confidence, curiosity, and compassion in the students, helping them grow into adults ready to make a difference. Supporting the IHM congregation felt natural; it felt like giving back to the people who had poured so much into his family.

Patrick’s mother, Cyndy Ryan, served on the board at Shanahan alongside Sister Regina for three years and witnessed firsthand how she worked tirelessly to make Shanahan one of the strongest Catholic schools in the region. "Their dedication wasn’t abstract," Cyndy said. "It was visible in every student, every program, every success story."

That’s why when it came to supporting the IHM Sisters, through events like "Sippin’ for the Sisters," it felt not only meaningful but essential to the Ryans. "Their commitment to education shapes future generations, instilling not just knowledge but values, purpose, and a sense of service," Cyndy said. "They cultivate leadership and compassion in equal measure, preparing young people to contribute something good to the world."

For anyone considering supporting the Congregation, the Ryan’s message is simple: "It is worth it, the sisters’ work echoes far beyond the classroom, touching families, communities, and futures."

And so, when The Stove Shop stepped forward as a bronze sponsor, it wasn’t just a sponsorship. It was a tribute to the sisters who taught, inspired, and led; to the schools that shaped a family; and to the enduring belief that education rooted in faith can change lives.

Building a Brighter, Greener Future

Work has officially begun on a new solar farm on the grounds of Immaculata. Guided by the IHM mission of reverence for creation, this project reflects our commitment to responsible stewardship and long‑term sustainability.

We are grateful to TerraSol Energies, both our construction partner and a generous sponsor of Sippin’ for the Sisters, for their expertise and support. By harnessing the power of the sun, this solar farm will provide renewable energy to power more than 90% of Camilla Hall, helping us honor our values while preparing our congregation for the future.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the project continues to progress.

CAMILLA HALL NEWS

National Skilled Nursing Care Week

During the month of May, Camilla Hall celebrated National Skilled Nursing Care Week which brought a spirit of celebration, gratitude, and togetherness to Camilla Hall. The Barbershop Quartet, charmingly known as Late Entry, filled the halls with music that lifted everyone’s spirits. Every sister and staff member received flowers, which were small but meaningful tokens of appreciation. Sisters resting in their rooms were surprised with premade floral arrangements in little vases, while those dining together enjoyed the hands-on joy of assembling their own bouquets. Buddy’s Burgers also rolled up with their food truck, adding fun to the day.

The week was all about honoring the compassion, dedication, and daily acts of care that define skilled nursing communities. We are most thankful to the caregivers, volunteers, families, and residents who make Camilla Hall feel like home. National Skilled Nursing Care Week reminds us of how deeply we rely on one another and how much brighter life becomes when that connection is celebrated.

SISTER EMILY'S CORNER

At the hour of any death,
trust Our Lady's Promise

I always looked up to my older brother Franklin. As a kid, he often picked on me; however, when any other kid tried to ridicule me, Frank would rush to my defense. Frank also didn’t hesitate to tell me what to do. Although I fought back often when he teased me, I would readily take his instruction and advice. My dad, bemused, would call Frank my little father.

When Frank was in ninth grade, he stayed back a year in school. He was in disciplinary trouble often. He was a smart kid, but doing schoolwork and following the rules were not on his agenda. From then on in, Frank and I were in the same grade. The first year was a rough adjustment, but after that, we became very close and got along quite well. Frank’s behavioral issues continued to get worse, and he went to drug rehab shortly before his 17th birthday. I wrote a letter to him almost every day during those five weeks and, along with my parents, visited him weekly.
