End of year PTA Message

As another incredible school year comes to a close, the Iron Horse PTA would like to thank our students, families, teachers, staff, volunteers, and community partners for helping make this year so special.

From school events and fundraisers to staff appreciation, student programs, and everything in between; none of it would be possible without the support, time, energy, and generosity of our amazing community. Thank you for showing up, volunteering, donating, cheering on our students, and helping create the strong community that makes Iron Horse such a special place.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to our PTA Executive Board and Committee Chairs whose countless behind-the-scenes hours helped make so much of this year possible. Thank you to Amanda McCoy, Devin Crawford, Hitasha Mowry, Bakul Banthia, Mira Pinney, Masooma Saif, Megha Narang, Sara Winter, Jenn Green, and Lori Fairbanks for your leadership, dedication, and commitment to our students, staff, and families.

Because of your hard work, time, and dedication, our 8th graders got the legendary send-off they deserved. Thank you for creating such a fun and memorable night for our students; we couldn't have done it without you!

The Wellness Center Fundraiser has now come to a close.

Together, we raised $8,536 toward our goal of $20,000. While we did not reach our fundraising target, the Iron Horse Middle School Education Fund is incredibly grateful to the 87 families who participated and supported this important effort.

Summer Safety Message

As we head into summer break, please review these critical e-bike and e-scooter safety reminders:

• Know Your Bike: Understand the classification of the e-bike your child rides. High-speed or modified e-bikes are illegal for minors and put children at a high risk for severe injury.

• Parental Citations: Local law enforcement has begun issuing citations for knowingly allowing a juvenile to ride illegally. This includes reckless driving, riding without a license, or operating a bike prohibited for their age.



• E-scooter age requirement: Riders of all e-scooters must be at least 16 years old and have a drivers license or learner’s permit.

8th Grade Promotion @ California High School

Thursday, June 4th

Mandatory Promotion Practice: 8:00-11:00am

Student drop off: 7:45am

Practice starts promptly at 8:00am

Location: Cal High Events Center

Please be mindful of Cal High traffic.

All 8th graders will be required to participate in practice. Their permission slip must be on file. Students will go directly to Cal High in the morning. They do not need to come to Iron Horse campus on this day. Students may not leave early unless parents/guardians have made arrangements with the Iron Horse attendance office at least 24 hours in advance. No exceptions.

Promotion Ceremony: 6:00pm to approx 7:30pm

Student arrival: 5:00pm

Location: Cal High Ernie Berger Stadium

Dress code applies: Suits, slacks, dress shirts, and ties. Dresses, blouses, skirts, slacks, and wedges are allowed, NO flip flops.

Tickets are NOT required but seating is limited and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Seats may not be saved ahead of time.

Commencement Lei Pick-Up Info

Families who ordered commencement leis through our school fundraiser with CommencementLei.com may pick them up after school on Wednesday, June 3 from 2:00–3:00 p.m. outside the school.

Leis are being delivered fresh on June 2 to ensure the best quality for the ceremony. Families who are unable to pick up during that time will be contacted to arrange porch pick-up or delivery.

Incoming 7th Grade Parents

We need proof of your students mandatory Tdap vaccine (given on or after their 7th birthday) as soon as possible. Your student will not be able to start 7th grade without it.

Interested in biology? Check out our Zoology Explorers class (Grades 1-3) incorporating art, engineering, science and technology, students will bring the study of animals to life in their own hands. Learn about our oceans and the creatures that live there in our Intro to Marine Biology (Grades 3-5) and Marine Bio - A Deeper Dive (Grades 6-8). These courses will spark curiosity and excitement about science by incorporating hands-on labs, inquiry-based learning, art, and engineering projects.

Interested in technology and computer science? Classes for grades 3-5 include Coding with Spheros robots, Stop Motion Animation, and Blast Off! Rocketry. Grades 6-12 can learn Creative Coding with Python and release their inner engineer with Robotics. Young makers (Grades 3-5) will experiment with recycled materials to build art, inventions, games, and more in The Recycle Lab.

For students in grades 6+, there are opportunities to learn skills equipping them with tools that extend far beyond the classroom including critical thinking and debate in Pop Culture Philosophy, financial literacy in Level Up Your Money Game, and improving their confidence in Public Speaking.

Learn real life skills in Sweet Science Lab and Let’s Get Cooking classes for grades 3-5 and grades 6-8. For students in grades 6+, Medical Intervention will empower them to make a difference in their communities through the learning of life saving skills.

New this year, Summer Imagineering is offering Beginning Band and Beginning Strings for students with little to no experience with instrumental music but a desire to learn and Advanced Band and Advanced Strings for students who already have some experience with their instruments. This class is dedicated to preparing 5th and 6th graders for middle school concert band.

Homework Club

If your student would like a quiet place to get their homework done, they can come to Homework Club on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-3:45pm.

Each day is in a different classroom.
