Developing the Skills to Navigate Life
Presented by
Stacy Williams

Wednesday, December 11
7:00-8:30pm
Iron Horse Middle School
Multipurpose Room (MPR)

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. (excerpt from CASEL).  Stacy will guide us through an interactive presentation on how we as parents can understand and apply the knowledge of SEL. into our own lives, better enabling us to help our children develop the best skills to navigate this ever changing world.

Stacy Williams is a Senior Learning & Development Manager, specializing in people management and building training programs, as well as the founder of Neverstoplearning.com.  Stacy has conducted one of the three professional development sessions on Social Emotional Learning for the staff at Iron Horse Middle school and has graciously offered to share her knowledge with the school community.

IHMS Annual Toy Drive - Continues!
Every year, the Iron Horse community collects toys for all students at our sister school at Riverside Elementary.

Leadership will be collecting new, unopened toys from December 2 through December 13th.

Leadership students will be coming in to collect toys each day at the beginning of 7th period. Students can also drop toys off in Mrs. Stevens' room (PT-11) each morning between 7:45-8:15 if it is easier for them. Please be sure any toys dropped off in PT-11 are labelled with your 7th period teacher's name (on a sticky note) as this toy drive will be a competition between 7th period classes. The winning classes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will each receive special treats.

Each grade level has been assigned a specific age group to shop for. Grade level assignments are:
6th grade: ages 5-7
7th grade: ages 8-10
8th grade: ages 11 and up

All gifts (MUST BE NEW AND UNWRAPPED) are welcome but possible suggested gifts are toys, sports apparel for Bay Area teams, sports equipment/games, arts & craft kits/supplies, board games, anything Star Wars/Disney, etc. Please donate if you can!
