Raspberry Pi Birthday Jam

Presented by the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation Imagineering Program
Saturday, February 29, 2020
9 am to 1 pm
at both Los Cerros MS and California HS

The SRVEF is excited to join the global celebration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to celebrate the eighth birthday of the Raspberry Pi computer (or its second birthday, depending on how strict you are about counting leap years)!

The Raspberry Pi is a powerful, yet inexpensive, micro-computer that is the perfect tool for an introduction to hardware and physical computing. Our goal is to provide a platform for students to gain the technical expertise needed to thrive in the highly competitive global environment. Getting comfortable with coding and the ability to work in functional teams are two major skills we intend to promote along with rewarding technical literacy skills and creativity.

At this event, student teams will be given a challenge that requires them to work in Python. They will work hands-on with sensors, LEDs, and other components, and use programming to control circuits.

Sign up for either location at:  http://bit.ly/srvef_imagineering

The Birthday Jam at Los Cerros Middle School will be led by Rae Anne Crandall and Erin Lopez, and at California High School by Sean Raser. All our instructors are Raspberry Pi Certified, SRVUSD teachers, and are members of our SRVEF Imagineering Team.

Parent Ed: Well Balanced Perspective on College Fit
College Fit
San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs is pleased to bring the "Challenge Success: A Well-Balanced Perspective on College Fit" presentation and interactive workshop to our community. This workshop will take place on February 22nd, 8:30am to 11am at Cal High Theater.

The college admissions process can often be a source of stress and anxiety for students and parents alike. This research-based workshop addresses many of the important questions we hear from families. What do college rankings really measure? Are students who attend more selective colleges better off later in life? What is "fit" and why does it matter? Participants will learn practical strategies to help reduce unnecessary pressure around the college admissions process and ways to support their student's overall well-being and readiness for life in college and beyond.

At this interactive presentation, Challenge Success will highlight the parents' role in developing and supporting healthy, engaged children.

Challenge Success is recognized for its leadership in partnering with schools, families, and communities to embrace a broad definition of success, with an emphasis on research-based strategies that value well-being and critical thinking over grades and test scores. Challenge Success is an expert in the field of high school and college advice and has accumulated years of data that has been collected from more than 150,000 high school students.
