We're Partnered With Stores To Give Students An Advantage

We just recently had the time to update, and set up, the new 2022 in-store discounts for our current student body local to Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa and Vancouver. Don't see your favourite health food store on that list? Email [email protected] and she will contact them directly, but remember that the store has to be in the physical space. Our goal is to provide current students with savings on the natural health products they love while supporting their local brick and mortar business partners. To obtain your discount at any of the listed locations, please present your active student ID card at the checkout. If you encounter any issues with obtaining your discount, take a look at the Discount Store List for the contact name that IHN confirmed, and mention them at the check out.

Sylva Returns To Research, Inder Increases Her Role

Sylva Sheridan (left) graduated from IHN in 2016 and after occupying a number of roles including becoming one of IHN's Campus Managers. He left to get his Masters at Carleton where his thesis was on the overrepresentation of Indigenous children in the child welfare system with special attention to the intergenerational effects of the residential school system. He was excited to return to IHN in 2021 managing IHN's Continuing Education, Student Clinic and Program Advising. Sylva was called to academia, and will soon find him at Carleton again, earning his PhD. Though Sylva is excited about this new challenge, he will miss IHN colleagues and students, with whom he has had the privilege in working with.

Inder Gharial (right) joined the administration team in September 2021 and worked from the Mississauga campus. Not only has she kept her responsibilities with managing Field Trips, Holistic Food Preparation and Student Support, she has added time to her role along with taking over for Sylva in scheduling IHN's Continuing Education Courses, being the Student Clinic Coordinator as well as Program Advising. Inder’s goals for IHN are focused on student success!

A little about our newest administrative team member:

Inder received her Certified Nutritional Practitioner designation from the Institute of Holistic Nutrition’s Mississauga Campus in November 2019. After completing the program at IHN, Inder began working in private practice, Inder Nutritional Consulting, where she still brings solutions to a select client base of women with hormone imbalances. Before IHN, Inder earned her Certificate as a Pharmacy Technician as well as a Diploma in Advanced Aesthetics. Inder has partnered with Naturopathic Doctors to create therapeutic nutrition protocols to compliment their patients' treatment plans. She has taken Brett Hawes' Digestive Health Practitioner Masterclass and Baljinder Chhoker's Supplementation in Clinical Practice. Inder is a wife, and mom of two boys, and loves her her dog Max! In her personal time she practices Tai Chi and Karate, and is an avid member of the hockey community which her two boys are a part of. Yes, she is a diehard Leafs fan!

Husk Cherries, or Physalis pruinosa, are a small yellow-orange fruit, related more closely to tomatoes than cherries. They grow within a thin paper-like husk, which dries up and sheds when the fruit is ripe. Husk cherries can be enjoyed fresh, turned into jam, dressings, or cooked into sauces. There are a few varieties that are native to tropical climates, and most have a sweet pineapple taste. They are rich in beta carotene and are a good source of vitamin C. We recommend this Paleo Spicy Husk Cherry and Lime Vinaigrette recipe by IHN graduate Caitlin Isles.
