During her 1 hour webinar on Tuesday March 27, Lisa Pitel-Killah discussed the interrelationships of minerals, namely the significant ratios, one of which identifies the functionality of the thyroid. The thyroid is affected by the levels of minerals, specifically selenium, calcium, potassium and iodine. Iodine, whether in the form of seaweed or Lugol's, needs to be understood to be put into clinical practice. Understand the effects of iodine, the measurement tools, cautions and the conversions. Plus learn how to identify iodine insufficiency specifically by analyzing a client's HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) test.

Join Practitioners, Students & Staff At IHN's Co-op & Employer Partner!

For all Practitioners receiving IHN's This Week, as well as all public community members, have a look at the locations near you and attend! Nature's Source and Nature's Signature have been an incredible Co-op Placement and Employer Partner for over 15 years here in the Greater Toronto Area.

There is a Practitioners Meet & Greet on Thursday 5-8 pm at any of their locations. When you RSVP, let Mohamed know that you are from IHN! This would be an excellent time for alumni, and current students, to drop by and check out what the stores offer, meet the staff, see their professional product lines, and learn about the amenities NS has to offer to practitioners.

Tania Lewis, 2021 IHN graduate, who alerted us to the Public celebrations and the Practitioners Meet & Greet wrote, "I work part-time at the Liberty Village Nature's Signature location. I love it there! I interact with great customers and educate the public on natural health principles and supplementation. Our team is amazing! I started with Co-op and have been here ever since I completed my hours—1.5 years ago. Highly recommend!"

She also let us know that from Friday to Sunday there will be a 25th Anniversary Celebration (perhaps sales of some sort too!) and on Saturday at 1:00 pm a cake cutting at the Liberty Village location.

Every Signature (13 locations) & Source (3 locations) will be celebrating 25 years!
Jonothon Mainland Again?

Apparently, so! Naturopath and CanPrev's Vice President Medical Director of their brand acquisitions, works/lives close to Toronto Campus (pictured above), and stopped into Vancouver Campus (pictured below) while at CHFA West. He was able to visit both campuses within a week. CanPrev always furnishes Dr. Jonothon with an incredible amount of quality product for those in attendance. We livestreamed his presentation, and linked the recording on Vimeo below:
Jonothon provided surprising insight into how professional line supplements are developed, from concept to completed formula, and their impact on client outcomes. Even for graduates, Jonothon always has something fresh to tell us. From the process of selecting ingredients and developing capsule, liquid, and powder based products to how subtle differences in nutrient therapies (know your labels) achieve better patient outcomes to navigating regulatory aspects of NHP development.

Lisa refers to minerals as the foundation of the home that need to be kept in check in order to make sure “the house is strong and stable.” HTMA testing along with bloodwork from your client’s doctor can give a practitioner a clearer picture of protocol development. In a single hair sample, the tissue is stable over time and provides several months of biochemical activity versus just a snapshot from blood work.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but vitamin K1 will never hurt me. In a November 30, 2022 article (2 minute read), the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine references a new study stating, women who ate more than 100 micrograms of vitamin K1 consumption…were 31% less likely to have any fracture compared to participants who consumed less than 60 micrograms per day, which is the current vitamin K adequate intake guideline in Australia for women. In addition, risk of hospitalization was reduced to 49%! Visit the article to learn some sources of vitamin K1-rich foods to strengthen bones.

These days, so often do meals need to be pretty hand-free. We so love the care that goes into extensive recipes, but sometimes you need something that can be chucked into the oven with one hand and have dinner ready relatively quickly. We recommend this Vegan Sheet Pan Gnocchi With Tofu Ricotta by IHN graduate, Fran Allen.
