Celebrating A 12 Year Love Story

“Love is not just something we fall into. It isn’t what happens when two people connect, it’s how it happens. Love is in our action. It is how we speak to one another, how we take responsibility for our mistakes, how we forgive, and how we show we care.”
These words were shared on Saturday August 6, 2022, by IHN Vancouver Campus Manager, Jason Madden, while officiating a wedding for two of his dear friends and fellow graduates of IHN. Bride, Janette Mason ’16, and groom, Ryan Bell ’19 are both originally from Ontario. They moved to Vancouver while Janette was finishing her studies at IHN. It was a few years later, when Ryan decided to enroll at IHN, where he too, met Jason. The three of them even worked together for a year at a local supplement store. Eventually, Ryan and Janette decided to move back to Ontario to be closer to their family. When Ryan and Jeanette decided to get married, they wanted to make the event as meaningful as possible, and asked Jason if he would officiate! After planning a thoughtful ceremony, Jason flew out to Coldwater, Ontario, to celebrate and support the love story of Ryan and Janette. Congratulations to Ryan and Janette! IHN wishes you a lifetime of happiness. We are honoured to have played a part in your love story.
Advancing Public Speaking Skills Through Food Demos

As part of IHN's Applied Holistic Nutrition Diploma Program, both in-class and online students are required to conduct a food demo for their class as an assignment in the Professional Skills Development (PSD) Course. A primary focus of PSD is the development of public speaking skills, useful for conducting workshops, presentations, interviews, and working with clients. Pictured above are two of IHN's Vancouver students, Sarah Benjamin and Neema Mrita, studying under IHN instructor Sidney Shindle, serving up deliciousness with ease. They are performing LIVE in-class while the rest of their classmates attend via Zoom in the hybrid learning model. Give their recipes a try!

Intermittent fasting is a diet that has always stuck out from the crowd due to its focus on your feeding window rather than what foods you are allowed to eat. An article by Johns Hopkins Medicine (4-5 minute read), explored what exactly intermittent fasting is, and how it works. After reading, you’ll understand how to utilize intermittent fasting to manage your weight, prevent, and potentially even reverse disease. The author explains how “Scientific studies are showing that intermittent fasting may help reverse these trends [higher risks of obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses].” Intermittent fasting is a cost-effective and easy method accessible to all to advance one's health.

Sesame seeds that have been toasted and ground into a creamy paste is what many cultures know as tahini. It is typically used as a condiment, dip, or in a sauce. Its texture is similar to a nut butter, and its nutritional benefits are long. Particularly high in calcium, healthy fats and iron, tahini is a staple in Mediterranean, middle eastern, African, and Asian cuisine. We recommend this Buddha Bowl with Ground Taco Walnut Meat and Tahini Sauce recipe by IHN graduate, Amanda Cook-Reese.
