The Admin Team Welcomes All New January 2022 Students!

We are beyond delighted to welcome a new group of holistic influencers, each with an incredible personal story leading them to IHN. On Monday, January 10 we were Live, Virtual, and in two different time zones. But unlike the years of IHN before March 2020, students joined us from local and global spaces, simultaneously, from their part of the world. Once again this year, orientation set up the distinct and genuine evolution of a campus culture outside of physical walls. In-class learning has a long history of tradition but we want to relish in the presence of faculty and students feeling the real-time engagement, warmth and connection through cyberspace—no pun intended on the connection!

Ontario campuses + Online Eastern students, were hosted by Elizabeth Papadopoulos, IHN’s Founder and Director, Nutrition Studies, with Vancouver campus + Online Pacific students having Jason Madden, Vancouver's Campus Manager, at the helm for his eighth consecutive event.

Graduates from our in-class program that began 25 years ago, remember their orientation fondly. In the past two years, the online experience was crafted to hold the same dynamics. All components of the day-long event are still alive and well, and with a new addition of video produced to share the power of holistic nutrition. It features the field's scientists, researchers, authors, and thought leaders; miraculous personal stories of healing; with a focus on food, soil, mind-set, detox, lifestyle, environment and spirit. Students leave knowing that they are in the right place, starting the right life-changing journey.

They Are Now Peers, On A Unified Mission!

Orientation day connects, aligns, and sets the intentions of our new students. Meeting classmates and moving through enlightening dedication and expectation exercises, allows conversations to flow and lifetime friendships to begin. At one particularly, illustrative time, students moved into smaller Zoom breakout groups to learn of the motivations that brought them to IHN. By the end of the day, there were no strangers among them, only peers on a unified, personal and professional mission.

Short pull quotes (below), from one student rep, sharing on behalf of their group (pictured above):

Vanessa X (Toronto): "[For us, new students,] western, typical [conventional] medicine wasn't cutting it, so we turned to nutrition and living a holistic lifestyle."

Lyn S (Online ET): "We're looking to apply all of the knowledge obtained in the courses to help others, make our career changes, invest in our own personal growth, and follow our hearts."

Mantashanaz S (Online ET): "[Our] future expectations spoken about were to be able to absorb knowledge and be confident to apply it and know the right thing to say to people who need to know."

Christina M (Online PT): "[We're looking] to get a really, good concrete background so that we're helping people, which is something that we collectively want to do, with the best knowledge base available, so that we can share what we know [with our clients, with confidence]."

Dana F (Online ET): "[We collectively believe] it's very important for children to be learning this information. There are a lot of important things we can impart on the younger generation."

Tiffany B (Online ET): "[We want to] get some evidence-based, scientific answers on the why of what we're learning, and we want to use our knowledge to deal with mental health issues, because it's such a big problem in this generation, right now."

Catherine H (Online PT): "I'm kind of excited, I didn't know I'd be this excited today! I was really impressed with everyone here today, in that nobody tried to be more special or more brilliant, everyone was so gracious in the conversation, and that's what made me think I picked the right school. I think I might've found my tribe."

Anouck S-G (Online ET): "We want to improve our relationship to food, [develop] more self care and love ourselves, as well as apply the knowledge from IHN into our daily lives, on a daily basis, with friends, family, and our community."

Sara B (Online ET): "Becoming a more knowledgeable advocate for our [natural health] communities [is important to us all], being able to debunk incorrect information, and offer the public something closer to the truth."

Shahede B (Online PT): "There's so much information out there that I find by knowing it yourself, instead of just reading articles here and there, you can express yourself better [and hold credibility]."

Gurkamaljot B (Vancouver): "[We are] learning and seeking more knowledge and to better ourselves, have personal growth, and help our families heal and grow."

Maryam G-E (Vancouver): "I want to know more about the byproducts, the fillers, the chemicals, and then after that I can help people like me and my family, and my friends, and the other people I am working with to know more about their diet and change everything. They thought that only medication can help them, food [supplements and lifestyle changes] can help them too!"

It is a defining moment for new students to solidify their truth and advocate for their values to heal the world. We are proud to have the January 2022 students, join our returning second semester students, and warmly welcome them to the IHN family!

Those of you who are still thinking about registering and want to join in the next few weeks are more than welcome to submit your application. Although, the official orientation will have taken place, you will be able to join an orientation summary session with one of our Program Advisors.

Robert Tomilson Shares Material From The Con Ed Course

Join us Wednesday, January 26 at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT for a 1 hour webinar, as Robert Tomilson takes us on a journey through a fascinating exploration of the Iris and Sclera of the eyes. Observe how to detect weakness in the body long before it manifests as disease. Iridology is a quick, accurate, non-invasive and painless method of health analysis through the examination of the iris and a perfect “marriage” with any nutritional practice. The iris consists of tiny nerve fibers known as trabecula that reveal the body’s constitution, inherent weakness, level of health and the transitions that take place in a person’s body according to the way they live. Discover how a simple step-by-step process can not only give you deep insights into various health issues, but also maximize your marketability and thoroughly impress your clients.
Dr. David Duizer Shares Material From The Con Ed Course

Join us Tuesday, January 25 at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT for a 1 hour webinar, as Dr. David Duizer, ND outlines a holistic approach to metabolism assessment and treatment. From disrupting metabolism and slowing metabolic rate to causing mental/emotional distress and disordered eating habits, popular weight loss programs often cause more harm than good. Sustainable, reliable, and effective weight loss programs need to be individualized, which comes from understanding how to properly analyze metabolism and calorie-burning efficiency. Through clinical laboratory and functional testing, David is able to determine high-value targets for rapid metabolic improvements and efficient weight loss.
An exercise snack is a short form of movement that yields similar benefits as a longer workout. In a February 6, 2021 article (3 minute read), Alisa Cook wrote that “[Exercise] snacks don’t need to be highly structured, either. They can be as simple as including short bursts of speed during a daily walk, or when climbing stairs”. Holistic-centred examples include daily strolls to your favourite juice shop, ensuring you step away from your desk for some calisthenics, and a favourite, making sourdough bread. In fact, a study that examined climbing stairs three times a week yielded a higher oxygen update in participants!

Many consider zucchini as a vegetable, but it is a young fruit belonging to the Cucurbitaceous family, along with cucumbers and gourds. The zucchini originated in Italy, where it was called, “little squash” and was later introduced to America in the 1920’s. The entire zucchini is edible, including the skin, seeds, and flesh, which are all full of phytonutrients. We recommend including this nutritious fruit in healthy snacks as IHN graduate Sarah Vrabel did in her Zucchini Bread recipe.
