You Can Be There From The Very Beginning

“I'm kind of excited, I didn't know I'd be this excited today! [commenting on last year's Orientation Day] I was really impressed with everyone here today, in that nobody tried to be ‘more’ special or more brilliant. Everyone, regardless of their academic, professional or personal backgrounds, was so gracious in conversation. That's what made me think I chose the right school. I think I might've found my tribe.”

— Catherine H., Online PT

“Becoming a more knowledgeable advocate for our [natural health] communities [is important to us all], being able to debunk incorrect information, and offer the public something closer to the truth is our moral obligation.”

— Sara B., Online ET

“[We want to] get some evidence-based, scientific answers on the why of what we're learning, and we want to use our knowledge to deal with mental health issues, because it's such a big problem in this generation, right now, given the last two years and how we view our futures.”

— Tiffany B., Online ET

Detoxification is one of the most discussed and misunderstood topics in health and nutrition. Practitioners and health-conscious individuals are exposed to countless detox programs, cleanses, supplements, and protocols, yet many are left wondering how to choose an appropriate approach and if they are truly ready to begin.

At the same time, practitioners encounter clients who react poorly to detoxification programs, experience increased symptoms, or don't improve despite following seemingly appropriate protocols.

Why does this happen? The answer lies in an often-overlooked concept: detox capacity.

In this webinar, Paul Demeda CNP will explore the physiological factors that influence detox capacity and examine why increasing detoxification is not always the most appropriate first step. Whether you are considering a detoxification program for yourself or supporting clients, understanding detox capacity can bring greater clarity to the decision of when, why, and how to implement a detoxification program.

You Will Learn:

• Why building detox capacity is often more important than increasing toxin mobilization

• Why some thrive during detoxification programs while others struggle

• The most common physiological bottlenecks that impair detoxification

• How impaired drainage and elimination contribute to poor tolerance and results

• Key considerations for determining whether a detoxification program is appropriate

• A practical framework for assessing detox capacity before implementing interventions

Paul Demeda CNP

Paul is dedicated to investigating and explaining important nutrition concepts and is a proponent of critical thinking in the context of health and published research. He is a nutrition educator and clinician with twenty years of experience teaching detoxification, mental health, and clinical nutrition to students and practitioners.

Paul has taught core curriculum and continuing education courses at The Institute of Holistic Nutrition. As a Program Facilitator with the International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine (ISOM), he develops educational programs that emphasize evidence-informed, nutrient-based approaches to health for both healthcare professionals and the public.

What keeps you excited about teaching?

"I love teaching Preventive Health Care because the course is practical. It gives students answers and protocols for very common conditions that we encounter often. I love seeing students have AHA moments when they start to connect symptoms with root causes and figure out how to address health issues that the medical community all too often 'bandaids'."

What do you hope students will carry with them?

"I hope students learn not just what is taught in class but how to find the answers to things they did not learn. I also hope that they approach clients with empathy and care by meeting them where they are at that first appointment and try not to overwhelm them by fixing everything at once" 😉

What did you do this summer for fun?

"I spent the summer hiking and kayaking in Gros Morne National Park. It was quite remote and definitely different from anywhere else I have ever been. The energy here is truly amazing!"

We Asked: What has been your personal best achievement?

My personal best achievement, other than having my brain get through the science based courses like Body Metabolism and Biochemistry, has been finding my own personal balance. I've learned how to hone in on every aspect of Holistic Health. I take time for me, I avoid or have the tools to deal with stressful situations. I feel deeply grateful and appreciative of life!

With So Many Supplement Brands, How Do You Choose the Right One?

For practitioners and advanced students, this ConEd course gives you a working framework for that decision. You'll learn to compare and differentiate nutraceuticals, botanicals, and homeopathics, determine appropriate options across a range of health conditions, and apply dosing strategies for both maintenance and therapeutic care.

Now in his 16th year teaching the course at IHN, Baljinder Chhoker continues to refine the curriculum to reflect current research, evolving clinical practice, and time-honoured traditional medicines. He uses real-world case examples to bring clinical decision-making to life and to strengthen your ability to assess supplement quality and formulation differences.

Every student also receives a curated supplement kit to support hands-on learning and protocol development. Retail value exceeds the course fee (shipping not included).

Advance Your Understanding Of Hormonal Health

Linda Bazinet has taught college-level biology, chemistry, and microbiology since 1988, and she brings that same scientific rigour to making complex endocrinology genuinely clear. She connects the physiology to real health conditions, so you finish the course able to think through the why behind hormonal imbalance rather than memorizing glands in isolation.

For practitioners and advanced students, this self-paced ConEd course gives you a working framework for seeing the endocrine system as one interconnected web. You'll learn how hormones govern metabolism, stress adaptation, sleep, appetite, reproduction, and healthy aging and how to recognize the hormonal roots of conditions like hypothyroidism, adrenal dysfunction, diabetes, osteoporosis, PMS, menopause, and PCOS. Across four units, you'll explore the nutritional strategies, hormone support, and environmental factors that quietly shape hormonal health.

Because the course is fully self-paced, you move through all lessons on your own schedule with lifetime access to revisit the lectures and digital course notes whenever a client case calls for it.
